war criminals[edit]

Do war criminals, people convicted of genocide, etc, go under criminals? Should there be a separate info box for them? 76.189.104.23 05:34, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Character Infobox Question[edit]

I was going to list the {{Infobox character}} on this page, but first wanted to ask. I started reading that you don't support all infoboxes. Is it appropriate to add that infobox on this main article? Maniwar (talk) 13:00, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, because it's for fictitious characters, which our project doesn't include. Thanks for thinking of us though! --plange 17:41, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Plange! A fella Georgian I see :) I have been quietly going around fixing and adding infoboxes and since I come to this page so much, I was wondering why the character one was not in there. Thanks for sharing. I guess I'll go back to browsing and adding/fixing infoboxes. --Maniwar (talk) 14:56, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your hard work and glad you find this page useful :-) --plange 16:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Infobox Suggestion: Engineer[edit]

There are infobox types for Architects and Scientists. I feel there's a lot of scope for there to be one for Engineers. Any thoughts? -Bernard S. Jansen 03:20, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You might be right, but I do not ((yet)) understand why it is needed. An {{Infobox Person}} has a slot for occupation (right?) - so we can fill it in with "Engineer", or "whatever" is appropriate -- (right?) Just my 0.02 --Mike Schwartz (talk) 23:01, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nobleman/Aristocrat[edit]

There's so many pages for nobles out there (such as in Category:Royalty and nobility work group articles needing infoboxes) that need infoboxes but don't really fit into any of them correctly. "Infobox Politician" does say they have governmental control but implies they're a member of an organized political body. "Infobox Monarch" implies they're royalty when they could be much lower-level. Other than things like "Biography" or "Person" are much to catch-all for someone of this notability, so I think we should add or create a new infobox for non-royal non-political aristocrats, nobles, gentry, lords and/or peers. Model infobox[edit]

I just found this discussion page. I perhaps should have visited here first before raising questions re the model infobox at Village Pump (policy). I have been working on Bollywood films and Bollywood actors and actresses. A number of Bollywood actresses were beauty contest winners or models before taking up acting. Some of the male editors are determined to use the model infobox for these actresses. I feel that the model (and the adult entertainer) infoboxes are not only demeaning to women, they're necessarily ephemeral and at present, universally unreferenced. Dress sizes mean nothing, since they have historically trended downwards and vary by manufacturer. Weight and measurements vary from day to day, or month to month. Furthermore, there's no reason to believe any of the models or pornstars when they CLAIM certain measurements -- I have the impression that claimed measurements, like age, are tweaked for public consumption. Surely we can judge the attractiveness of the subject by means of pictures.

I'm arguing that the measurements should be taken out of the infobox and if given, should be REFERENCED, such as "On X date, model Y stated that she weighed Z" and then cite the publication in which the claim was published.

If there's anyone reading here, please comment at the Village Pump (policy) or leave a message on my talk page. Zora 05:06, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. You are letting your own personal point of view involved when you claim that model and adult entertainer infoboxes are "demeaning to women". Your entire opinion is void.Fistful of Questions 16:00, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Infobox Suggestion: Director[edit]

There are infoboxes for actors, artists, celebrities, and writers. There should also be one for directors. I've tried using the artist and celebrity infoboxes, but they simply don't fit a director's information very well. We need one for directors as well, and looking at the current ones for Alfred Hitchcock, Sam Peckinpah, and Cecil B. DeMille, they are not very adequate. Fistful of Questions 15:59, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Already a discussion at Template_talk:Infobox_actor#Template:Infobox_director. --PhantomS 03:34, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Infobox Suggestion: Medical Doctor/MD[edit]

I would like to propose we do an infobox for MD's such as Ben Carson, John Harvey Kellogg, and other prominent MD's. --Maniwar (talk) 02:59, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does no one have any comments or thoughts on this?--Maniwar (talk) 13:32, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

death date and age[edit]

There is a TfD up for the "death date and age" template, which is for inclusion in infoboxes in a similar way to "birth date and age". Please vote keep/delete on the Templates for Deletion page. --PhantomS 05:26, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Supreme Court justices[edit]

There is currently two infoboxes that are used for U.S. Supreme Court justices, one for chief justices, {{Infobox US Chief Justice}}, and another for associated justices {{Infobox US Associate Justice}}. They should belong to the list here as well. Also, I see that there lacks an infobox for U.S. federal judges, for figures such as Richard Posner and Edith Jones, can someone create one? Thanks! Wooyi 20:14, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These infoboxes could easily be merged into one Infobox Judge or Infobox Justice. There is no reason that I can see why these infoboxes are so specific. --PhantomS 20:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you. Yet now the current SCOTUS justice infoboxes are utterly unusable for non-SCOTUS judges, which caused famous people like Posner or Jones not having an infobox at all. I'm not very good at infobox codes though, but it would be good if someone can create a box that is suitable for all justice and judges regardless of what court is he/she in. Wooyi 22:23, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See if the new {{Infobox Judge}} works for you. I haven't completed the documentation on it, but it seems to be pretty usable and looks like the two justice infoboxes that its going to replace. --PhantomS 01:30, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for the infobox. I put the new infobox on Alex Kozinski, Richard Posner, and Michael W. McConnell, it seems fine now, just I don't know why the spouse name is italicized (see Richard Posner). Also it's hard to find some non-SCOTUS judges' predecessor/successor, I guess I might call Posner and Kozinski's office tomorrow to check out. Wooyi 03:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I accidentally had the spouse field italicized, which I fixed. As for predecessor/successor, it isn't necessary to fill in every field. --PhantomS 03:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Entries using the Infobox US Chief Justice, Infobox State SC Justice, Infobox State SC Associate Justice, Infobox SCC Chief Justice, and Infobox SCC Puisne Justice templates have been completely replaced with the new Infobox Judge, and the templates themselves have been changed into redirects. Supreme Court associate justice entries will take some more time due to the sheer number. --PhantomS 07:44, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have finished converting Infobox US Associate Justice to Infobox Judge. --PhantomS 22:51, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Person v. Biography?[edit]

Aren't {{Infobox Person}} and {{Infobox Biography}} effectively duplicitive? Why do we have the both? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 21:06, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Infobox Suggestions: Religious Leader and religious infobox[edit]

What do you all think about making 1) religious infobox (similar to that of Orthodox Church in America) and a 2)religious leader infobox? There are people like Billy Graham, Charles Swindoll, Martin Luther, Dwight Moody, Pat Robertson, John Wesley and many many more (modern and historical) figures. There is currently an infobox for the popes and they are far fewer than prodestants. This could also apply for people like Mother Theresa, etc. What do you all think? --Maniwar (talk) 13:45, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need one for Tibetan reincarnated lamas too. Secretlondon (talk) 03:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template params: name vs full name[edit]

One suggestion I'd like to make for the infoboxe templates is to have a separate "fullname" parameter that would appear further down in the box, while "name" appears in the box's header. There's several purposes for this; I initially thought of this so that it could be used to include the writing of the name in the subject's native orthography, along with a standard romanization (IMO this kind of information should be separated out of the main prose, where it breaks the flow; it also looks very ugly if you put it in the heading at the top of the box, which is what the "name"/"subject_name" parameters do now). It could also be used for middle/baptismal/etc. names, former names (e.g. name=John Smith|fullname=John Michael Jones Smith (born Michael Jones)). Comments? cab 23:53, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification: Articles about (popular) musical artists[edit]

In order to clarify something that has caused misunderstanding at the Composers Project etc. I am adding the word 'popular' to the table for the Musical artists infobox. I hope that is helpful. Thanks. -- Kleinzach 08:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Scrabble player[edit]

Is there any infobox suitable for Scrabble players or other players of one-on-one games such as chess? Basically you'd need DOB, nationality, highest finish at notable tournaments, etc. Please reply to my talk page. Mglovesfun 15:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we have a tennis player infobox, why not a table tennis infobox? Please do write an infobox for table tennis players. Thanks --Jackl 10:09, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Universal values for all infoboxes[edit]

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the place but wondering if anyone is working on updating the infobox templates so values from one can be added into others if appropriate? Benjiboi 06:25, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Airshow Performers / Stunt Pilots?[edit]

I just added the Template:Infobox Aviator template to Talk:Sean_D_Tucker/Temp (it's a temp page because Sean D Tucker is presently a copyvio page, flagged as such). Anyway, I just noticed that template is not used widely, and apart from that, it's buggy (see the Tucker temp page for issues -- miniscule font size, unnecessary quotation marks/apostrophes, etc.) Is there a preferred infobox (maybe just Template:Infobox Person?) for aviators, specifically airshow performers and/or aerobatics pilots? Other examples include Patty Wagstaff, Kirby Chambliss, etc. I like the fields in the Infobox:Aviator template as it stands right now, so maybe that just needs some attention by someone with template skillz. - Ageekgal 20:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox clergy needs work[edit]

Cound someone active in this project take a look at {{Infobox clergy}} and clean it up? It needs to be re-aligned with {{Infobox Person}}. It is missing fields common to most biographical infoboxen, and needs to follow look-and-feel conventions of bio infoboxen. Thanks -- 67.100.124.74 (talk) 13:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Infobox consistency[edit]

The wiki tries to have a consistent format across all of its pages, but is seems inconsistent that some wikiprojects object to infoboxes. I have put infoboxes on dozens of scientists' articles without any problems, so is the advice on this page to discuss the certain info boxes on the talk pages prior to writing them out-of-date for scientists. I note that there is discussion on a infobox for a music conductor on the "Simon Rattle" page, and the infobox has been removed after being on the page for more than one year. What happens when one project wants an infobox on an article an another does not? Snowman (talk) 15:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the emphasis is wrong on this policy, perhaps it should say that when there an article has several WikiProjects and one or more of the projects have a no-infobox policy and one or more have a pro-infobox policy, the prejects that have a no-infobox policy should discuss the removed of the infobox on the talk page before removing it. Snowman (talk) 10:57, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photojournalists[edit]

Where to place these people? They are neither artists nor actors ({{infobox journalist}}). --Adoniscik(t, c) 18:00, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

athlete and runner[edit]

Question: can an {{Infobox Person}} be made wider?[edit]

at Talk:Zeev Sternhell the intro material said that an infobox might be needed. I added an {{Infobox Person}}, to Zeev Sternhell but IMHO it is not wide enough (the second list item for "alma mater" is so long that it has a line-break in it; which may be confusing for readers, partly since it is a French name of a French school, so it may already be an unfamiliar name). I tried to find some help on how to make an {{Infobox Person}} wider (how to specify the width), but I must have been looking in all the wrong places. Thank you. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 23:07, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Writing[edit]

Why should "Infobox Writer" (Articles about writers/authors) fall under "Biography/Arts and entertainment"? Arts and entertainment are infinitesimal fields in the universe of things people write about. Most people don't care about them at all. They just intrude on us because they're cash cows! Unfree (talk) 21:35, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because writing is an art, regardless of whether the subject being written about is art? Pi zero (talk) 22:53, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How about Infobox lawyer[edit]

I'm using "Infobox person" and it somewhat works, but wondering if there's an "infobox" for lawyers?--Tomwsulcer (talk) 18:27, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification[edit]

...but, for instance, scientist articles can have some heated debates on these.

Which specific articles? All the major phycists and chemists I have checked out contain them and there has been no obvious objection. Certainly WP:Composers and other WP:CM-related projects vehemently oppose such infoboxes on classical musician articles, but I have yet to see any objection from the scientific communty or any of its projects. Clarification required... --Jubilee♫clipman 15:13, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Guerilla' infobox required[edit]

We need an infobox for biography entries of guerillas. The 'Military person' infobox is inadequare and the 'Criminal' infobox usually carries a POV burden. -The Gnome (talk) 11:36, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New infobox suggestion: businessperson[edit]

I couldn't find an appropriate infobox for a businessperson. We must have a ton of articles on that subject. Any suggestions for one I can use in the meantime? --MelanieN (talk) 03:07, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
