Assessment subpage

Assessment subpage, at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bacon/Assessment. This also lists all articles within the project, in a statistics box, broken down by rated level of quality, and importance. -- Cirt (talk) 09:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Just waiting for a bacon portal... :-) Wackywace converse | contribs 16:25, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Heh, good idea. I could create one. However, probably not really enough quality content at this point in time, to get it to a Featured Portal level of quality. Still, just to have one would be something. I will get on that. ;) -- Cirt (talk) 16:31, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Done, now at Portal:Bacon. Use {{Portal|Bacon}} to display a link in [[WP:ALSO|see also sections of related articles, see example at right. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 11:39, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

You people are nuts

I mean truly and utterly, 2 slices short of a pound, nuts. Wrapped in bacon, with a bacon martini over the top completely nuts. I like that.

You're still nuts.

--Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 04:36, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

The participants in this project are not "nuts", they just have an interest in a particular sub-topic, and a motivation of improving articles to quality content within that sub-topic. -- Cirt (talk) 04:59, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
That was meant in humor. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 05:04, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

April Fools' Day

I think, if possible, we should try and get an FA in for next year's April Fools' Day. The only feasible one that's a GA at the moment is Bacon: A Love Story, but really only for its amusing title. If an FA isn't possible, there are several stubs we could expand for DYK:

I'm certainly willing to collaborate with anyone who either wants to get a DYK for April Fools' next year, and, if Bacon: A Love Story is deemed funny enough to be on TFA for April 1st, I'm willing to help out on that. What do we think? Wackywace converse | contribs 16:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

I am currently working on further improving the quality of GA-rated-article Everything Tastes Better with Bacon, with peer review ongoing at Wikipedia:Peer review/Everything Tastes Better with Bacon/archive1. -- Cirt (talk) 22:33, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Why dont we try to get Bacon article to GA(probably closer to GA then FA)? It is the main article of the project beacuse this is what the Project is about. Spongie555 (talk) 04:05, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay feel free to do so. ;) -- Cirt (talk) 04:11, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I believe that all the listed articles (with the exception of International Bacon Day and Pig Candy) have appeared as DYKs before. Traditionally the Bacon Cabal had reserved the DYK Blitz for International Pig Day, which is when the Bacon WikiCup ends. Although international bacon day may be better, we can chew the fat at some other time. I believe that this WikiProject may have the largest percentage of DYK articles out there, as most of the articles were created or expanded as part of the bacon challenges (the predecessor to the Bacon WikiCup). The first bacon challenge produced 12 DYK articles that were mass inserted into the DYK queue, while the second produced 13 (some related more to pigs than bacon). --kelapstick (talk) 12:31, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Peer review - Bacon: A Love Story

I have placed this article up for peer review, now ongoing at Wikipedia:Peer review/Bacon: A Love Story/archive1. Input about the article and suggestions on how to improve its quality on the eventual road to FAC, would be most appreciated. -- Cirt (talk) 21:38, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

They exist, and can be found within the blogosphere. I even saw one created last night. I'm not sure anything that remotely approaches WP:RS exists about them, however. I mention it here in case anyone wants to try to prove me wrong about that last assertion. LadyofShalott 21:33, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Not really a huge amount of sources there. :( -- Cirt (talk) 02:50, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Umm..

Shouldn't this be a taskforce under WP:WikiProject Food and drink?? Or even a taskforce under another taskforce for Meats? -- œ 13:48, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Nah, it is all setup and functions well on its own and independently. :) -- Cirt (talk) 13:50, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Well okay then.. I sense it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but if it serves to improve food articles then it's a good thing. You may want to recruit User:Chzz btw.. I hear he's really fond of certain pork products... -- œ 15:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Cute, thanks! That brings up a related idea - perhaps a WikiProject interview with The Signpost ? -- Cirt (talk) 04:19, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I think we should give the project some time before a signpost interview. We are new and have no featured content. Spongie555 (talk) 06:08, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
From another perspective, being new could help. It could be quite beneficial to get us out there from the start, and perhaps others interested in the subject matter would read The Signpost article, and join the project! ;) -- Cirt (talk) 07:59, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
It could help but it depends if they pick us which depends on what the writer thinks if the project. Spongie555 (talk) 05:07, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay. :) -- Cirt (talk) 06:29, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm surprised this project has already been talking about this... WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Bacon for a Signpost article to be published November 15. This particular article will look at WikiProject Bacon as an example of how new projects get started. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. I'm going to cook some bacon now... -Mabeenot (talk) 20:45, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:38, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Collaboration of the month?

I have seen some porjects that do collaboration of the month to get an article to GA and sometimes FA. Why dont we do it? I seen mostly the book articles are being promoted and maybe we should work together to get some Bacon food articles or something to GA. Spongie555 (talk) 03:29, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

You may want to look at some other existing models for Quality Topic Drives on other projects, including: WP:DOH/TOPIC, and WP:SOUTHPARK/TOPIC. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 05:32, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
We could model it after those except using individual articles instead of topics. Spongie555 (talk) 06:25, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
But why not try for a Good Topic or Featured Topic? ;) -- Cirt (talk) 12:59, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
I think individual would be easier and what topics are there of bacon? I don't think we would have a topic of every dish of bacon known to man as a topic. Spongie555 (talk) 14:07, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Hrm, I'm not sure, that is certainly something to think about. :) -- Cirt (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Kevin Bacon or Francis Bacon.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:51, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Even though there names are bacon they arnt in our scope. We should do this beacuse it could help us work together bring some of our articles to GA or maybe FA(most likly GA). But if we do chose topics i think the closes topic we can get to GT about bacon is List of books about bacon. Spongie555 (talk) 22:50, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
It was a joke.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 00:59, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Ahem. I mean the subject, I am not addressing the project thus. Needs extensive information adding, preferably by someone form Chicago. Rich Farmbrough, 18:57, 16 November 2010 (UTC).

It's not about the food itself, but it could be an interesting article nonetheless. And certainly about Bacon! ;-) WTF? (talk) 22:56, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

The Signpost - WikiProject Report - Sizzling: WikiProject Bacon

Enjoy! And many thanks to all who contributed to the interview and helped out with it. ;) Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 23:42, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

BTW, the WikiProject Report on WP Bacon received 580 views the day it was published and 140 the following day, making it our most popular report this year. -Mabeenot (talk) 05:38, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Stargazy pie

Hi all bacon members! I'm just working on stargazy pie, trying to get it to good status, with a long term target of featured... One of the comments of the good article review is that the link to the bacon portal and the bacon template seem a little odd on a fish pie. I have to say I agree, as bacon is not a standard traditional ingredient (though it is often included in many variants) it certainly doesn't represent the topic. While id love a bacon stargazy pie with streaks protruding, I'm fairly sure it doesn't exist. Can anyone come up with a decent rational for it's inclusion, or should I remove the portal and template? Worm 13:05, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I went ahead and removed them as well as the Bacon dishes category - it's not primarily a bacon dish (as you indicated above) - but is instead a fish dish that sometimes includes bacon. LadyofShalott 18:30, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Overzealous categorization/tagging?

I am afraid that the stargazy pie issue might be indicative of a bigger problem. It is just possible that in our aims to have the best possible coverage of bacon dishes that we have claimed a number of things which are not really bacon dishes, but for which bacon is an optional garnish. How much bacon is needed for something to be a "bacon dish"? LadyofShalott 18:42, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I did notice our tags on people who have the last name bacon also. Spongie555 (talk) 23:22, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Bacon Ice cream

Felt a little guilty removing Stargazy pie, so I've added in Bacon ice cream. Just about to add it to DYK and GAR, but if anyone's got any suggestions for improvement, please do! Worm 15:09, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

In the main page there are no links to edit the article. I tried to Contact Us, and went to a page full of squares and symbols and random letters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.78.128.243 (talk) 06:01, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Can you be more specific, give us links to which pages you are talking about? — Cirt (talk) 17:12, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
The "main bacon page" is presumably bacon, which an editor not logged into an account would not see an edit link on because it is semi-protected.
The page full of apparent gibberish might have been reached by trying to click on "Contact Wikipedia" on that page, and instead accidentally clicking on the interwiki link to the Arabic version of the article, which is fairly close beneath it. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:32, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Leaflet for Wikiproject Bacon at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Gammon

On a related topic I've just stub-sorted Gammon (meat) and added it to dab page, but not sure whether it stands up well. Over to you pork-meat afficionados. PamD 07:55, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks very much, PamD, but could you please revisit that page and denote with inline citations which sources you used for which facts in the article? — Cirt (talk) 15:14, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
No, you misunderstand: I didn't create it, I only stub-sorted it - and added {{no footnotes}} to make just that point. PamD 17:34, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
I see, I left a message for the person that added those references, thank you, — Cirt (talk) 19:23, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

This article inspired me so I did some checking and found, for starters, these sources...

It's fairly detailed and every recipe is attributed to The King, but I'm wondering would this be better as a WP:Category which invites the creation of articles for each recipe or just create a WP:LIST article of the foods associated with Presley?

There is already an article for Peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich and Fool's Gold Loaf which was another of the King's favs. Your thoughts?

As for Bacon Apps, this one is "ripe" for creation with quite a few sources devoted to the subject...

My thought is that using one of the List article pages for any of the "year of Playboy Playmates" would make for an interesting article format. Instead of a photo, there could be a vertical screen shot along with some associated info such as supported platform in an Infobox or similar Template. --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 23:57, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Its been suggested that this Infobox would be helpful... {{Infobox software}} --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 03:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Smithfield Foods

Hello Bacon fans!

I'm a representative of Smithfield Foods and would like to request some assistance in updating this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smithfield_Foods). The financial data and list of governance are two areas that are very out of date. Our most recent SEC filing has verified information pertaining to those areas. Here is the link to that: http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/SFD/1972273717x0xS91388-16-64/91388/filing.pdf. I am respectful of Wikipedia's guidelines concerning conflict of interest and have made no edits myself but wanted to encourage others to make this article accurate. WT:BLP#Requested move. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:27, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Bacon task force/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Food and drink.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Food and drink, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

I don't know if anyone still watches this page, but I am interested in taking this articles to FL status. I've begun the process of adding sources and improving upon some of the descriptions, but I would love to have some help. This WikiProject does not have any Featured Lists yet, and this seems like a reasonable place to start. I'm pinging Reaper Eternal, who has contributed the most content to this list, and Northamerica1000, who has made the most edits, in case they are interested. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:26, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Nomination of Portal:Bacon for deletion

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
