Shouldn't this be "Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's football" (with an apostrophe) — or are there any technical reasons for avoiding that? --StuartBrady (Talk) 14:35, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Hierarchy

Since WP:FOOTY already exists, would it be prudent to either make this a sub-project of that or even a task-force. 84.64.25.108 14:41, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I've suggested this at the talk page for WikiProject Football. --StuartBrady (Talk) 15:39, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Suggested name change

I think that the name of this task force should be changed from Women's task force to Task force on women's football. It may seem like a petty thing to request, but at the moment I think it sounds like only women are able to join and take part. Am I alone in thinking that? — Gasheadsteve Talk to me 07:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

That is a fair point I am for it to be changed.mattypc 18:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea to change the background colour, so that it matches {{User WikiProject Football}} and {{User WikiProject Non-league football}}. It make sense to keep all of the football userboxes in the same sort of style. — Gasheadsteve Talk to me 07:54, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Women's football

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Women's Super League

It seems to me that the present half-baked guidelines for football notability ("fully professionalism"), are inappropriate for articles to do with Women's football. In particular they have been misused as an excuse to delete several articles, driving away contributors and harming Wikipedia's efforts in this important area.

Alleged full professionalism may or may not be effective as a cut-off point for notability in the male game. But it has led to the imbalance we have now, where top-division female players are excluded while plodding lower-league male journeymen get articles.

I propose we establish our own, more realistic, criteria for elite players. Withdrawing from, or going 'over the heads' of, 'project football' if neccessary.

Comments, suggestions? Eliteimp (talk) 15:03, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Women's football articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Women's football articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Women's soccer in Canada

Hey everyone, bonjour vous tous. I wish to work on the pages on the women's soccer. I begin with the page of Laval Comets and Quebec City Amiral SC. I have to end these 2 pages. And I have to modify the page of Amy Walsh a great local player of soccer whom I like very much. It was not easy for me because I am new member on Wikipedia. I wish to continue at the level of the other women's teams of Quebec ( Carabins, Rouge et or, Vert et Or) and of Canada.

What to work on next?

I just joined the group but have already started working on the English women's leagues. I updated the current teams in the List of women's association football clubs in England and Wales through step 4 (i'll try to update through step 5 asap) and also cleaned up the leagues they link to. I have created an article for the 2011-12 FA Women's Cup and plan to create one for the Sheffield FC Ladies. After that what's next? Any preferences? Thanks, Bawambi (talk) 02:46, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to the taskforce! There is plenty for you to work on if you are interested in the English Leagues. For example, we still have other Premier League teams without their own article (Reading, Rochdale etc...). In fact the whole thing is a bit of a mess! Norwegian Women's Premier League article titles.

Hello there.

Some time ago I moved all Toppserien articles from "Toppserien 20**" to "20** Toppserien", but as you can see from Category:Toppserien I did not move the articles before it was named Toppserien. When moving those, should I simply move from "Norwegian Premier League 19** (women's football)"" to "19** Norwegian Premier League (women's football)" or do you know of an alternate title without the paranthese? Need some help watching a few articles please

I have been fighting a battle over the past few weeks with a user determined to add to articles copyrighted photos from a nude calendar that a number of Australian players were in around a decade ago. This is obviously a problem on two fronts, the copyvio as well as WP:BLP issues. I block the user each time but they return with a new account for each edit and re-upload the photos on Commons (where I apply to have them deleted as copyvios each time as I am not an admin there).

I would appreciate some help with keeping the articles on your watchlists please as I do try to check and revert when I can, but I'm not around 24/7 and additional eyes would help revert quicker. The main pages that need to be looked at are the main page Australia women's national association football team, as well as the player pages Amy Taylor, Tracie McGovern, Sunni Hughes, Kim Revell, Alison Forman, Sharon Black, Cheryl Salisbury, Alicia Ferguson, Katrina Boyd, Sarah Cooper, Cas Ambrose, Traci Bartlett and Bridgett Starr. I've included red links as this user has created a page with incorrect stats and templates just to add a photo to it previously, so would not be surprised if it happens for some of the other players without a page.

Thanks for any help, I'll continue to block and report images to commons where I can. Camw (talk) 04:48, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye on 'em too. Clavdia chauchat (talk) 16:49, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Women's football in Catalonia

Hi buddies. I'm a Valencian wikipedist from :ca, and I've recently uploaded some great Women's soccer pictures from a flickr account. They're taken from a FC Barcelona-RCD Espanyol match, and shows some good pictures of some players. Here they are. I've recognised some RCDE players (Lara Rabal, as "Capitana Espanyol"), and two players who still don't have any article (Brenda Pérez Soler and Núria Mendoza (If it's a Catalan name, Núria wears an accent in the "u"), who is, if not mistaken, the player in this picture and this too). I'm sure You will appreciate this, so good luck and congratulations for your job: You have more information about local women's football here in :en than in :ca and :es togheter!--Coentor (talk) 12:31, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

I've also uploaded a few photos from an older match: another RCDE-FCB from a Catalan Cup final hold in 2011. There are different players. I've uploaded only a small part of The 48 files hosted in the very same Flick account. I'm sure You'll be able to selectionate the best for the project and Commons. Good Bye!--Coentor (talk) 14:57, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Emilia Appelqvist and other like her

Hi there. As you might be aware of, I started a AfD for Emilia Appelqvist, where some of the editors stated that WP:NFOOTBALL doesn't work for women's football as there are no fully-pro leagues and that work should be done to the notability-criteria for women's football. Subject-specific notability guidelines (SNG) are made to make it easier for editors to judge what articles are likely to pass the general notability guideline, even though articles can still be deleted even if they pass a SNG, if they fails GNG ([2]).

If you want the notability guideline for women's football to be changed, you should do some work and show that a lot of articles who fails NFOOTBALL and has e.g. played in the UEFA Women's Champions League passes WP:GNG. After stub-sorting a lot of women's footballer the last couple of months, I have to say that there are a huge amount of women's footballers stubs which fails both the SNG and GNG, created by some editors who believes that playing in youth tournaments (like the U-20 World Cup) confers notability. Emilia Appelqvist was one of those, but during the last week the article improved from this to this. Why don't we try to either improve those stubs with no claim for notability to a standard that makes it look like they pass WP:GNG (and delete those who blatantly fail GNG). I'll try to help on the Scandinavian ones, but this list of Spanish footballers is a good place to start. Mentoz86 (talk) 10:01, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

There is no doubt that many of the women footballer articles need expansion and major updates. Your help in this area is much appreciated. Hmlarson (talk) 17:14, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, glad to have you aboard. If you really want to do something constructive, you could help turn some red links blue at UEFA Women's Euro 2013 squads. This might be a better use of your talents than trying to delete what little women's football articles we have, making the glaring disparity on here even greater! Clavdia chauchat (talk) 17:32, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
A little bit off topic, does the German Women Bundesliga considered as fully professional league? MbahGondrong (talk) 17:23, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Separate notability criteria for female football (soccer) players

Further to the above, it's time we had more suitable notability criteria for female players. The current project-wide reliance on "fully professional leagues" is discriminatory and retarding the aims/development of our taskforce.

A sad situation has developed where the number of female articles is less than 1% compared to male articles in both England and Scotland. There are about 146 English women's footballers, against 14,779 English [men's] footballers. We have 42 Scottish women's footballers compared to 4,587 Scottish [men's] footballers.

The current notability rules put editors (or would-be editors) off from creating women's football articles, as they know they are likely to be deleted by WP:FOOTBALL bigwigs on the basis of not being "fully professional". So this imbalance is only likely to widen.

Obviously this is all a bit embarrassing and pathetic. Any 'doomsday scenario' of the project being overrun with scores of non-notable female footballer biographies is very unlikely; we have plenty of room to relax the policing and apply WP:COMMONSENSE.

WP:NFOOTBALL and WP:FPL were constructed purely with male football in mind and need to go into the garbage can as far as women's football articles are concerned. Question is, how do we replace them to ensure 1) more women's football articles 2) only genuinely notable women's football articles? Clavdia chauchat (talk) 17:54, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

I've given up on WP:FOOTY and just go with WP:GNG being sure to provide enough citations and content to ward off deletion by what appears to be a small minority of folks in that group who love to delete, delete, delete. As for other criteria, I've noticed "Has played in the highest division of soccer in a given country" seems to be adequate to a number of editors and admins on Wikipedia. Hmlarson (talk) 07:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
On a separate note, I have been playing with a re-organization of the pages for this group that I hope will help facilitate more collaboration and progress and updating, expanding, and publishing new articles related to female footballers. This is what I have so far. It basically divides the sections on the main project page into a few separate tabs that people can more easily add requests and modify. Does anyone have any feedback? Any pros and cons to moving to this type of setup vs staying with existing? Hmlarson (talk) 03:17, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Thumbs up from me. I think it's definately a step forward and anything that will perhaps bring in more active editors can only be a good thing. Our Italian friends have something similar and they seem to be a lot better organised than us! Clavdia chauchat (talk) 19:36, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
