Proposed Merge

I have proposed that The Dope Sheet be merged into George Whitney Calhoun and Green Bay Packers. You can discuss here. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:28, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Merge  Done. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 01:01, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

@Gonzo fan2007: - as I get more time I'm planning on going through and making sure Packers is sufficiently cited, so I can remove the template on top. After that it -should- be ready to be nominated for good article status? I've never really been involved in nominating though. Is there anything I can do to help with Packers sweep or the Retired numbers? Just let me know. Cheers, it's good to see the project being active! ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 17:58, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

El cid, el campeador‎ I moved this to the project page to centralize the discussion.
I would love to get Green Bay Packers to GA, but it probably needs a lot of work before it is ready. I put together a rough outline here on how I would reorganize it. The history section is a mess; the records, players, etc really could be tightened up and cleaned up; and it obviously needs some more sources. I was planning at some point to slowly update each section as I bring specific articles to featured status. I.e. I would use List of Green Bay Packers retired numbers to update the section in Green Bay Packers. That way I can reuse content and sources.
I probably won't get to that in a while, as I am focusing on the lists and a few new articles now. But I do want to clean it up. Let me know what you think of the new outline. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:06, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Shout-out to Gonzo

In just the past few months Gonzo fan2007 has elevated several articles to recognized status, including George Whitney Calhoun, Ryan Grant (running back), Packers sweep, Green Bay Packers Foundation, and List of Green Bay Packers retired numbers. Fantastic work. I appreciate and admire your dedication. Lizard (talk) 01:33, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Lizard the Wizard! The recognition and kind words are appreciated. Your work on Don Hutson is what finally got me interested in writing WP:GA articles, so thanks for laying the groundwork! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 02:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
Ha, I'd probably write that article much differently now. If you're interested, Tony Canadeo probably isn't far from GA. I expanded it a while back but never got around to polishing and nominating it. Lizard (talk) 02:13, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
I actually had that article on my to-do list! I'll take a look and see what I can do. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:22, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
One thing I think needs some elaboration is his work on the executive committee. After reading Lombardi's biography, it seems like he had a good relationship with Lombardi and was instrumental during those years. I'll see what I can do on that part. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:50, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

An Ambitious Project

Good Evening Ladies and Gentleman, It's about time for me to get back in the saddle and get a few more articles by the wayside. According to our Bot, the most viewed article in the project is Aaron Rodgers. I know the article needs a lot of work, but I think if we get together. We could do a substantial rewrite of most of it and finally get it to GA or better yet FA status. Anyone interested in helping me dissect it? -Church Talk 20:57, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Hey Church, great to see you back at it! I am able to assist with reviewing changes and copy editing, but I don't have enough time to attack a page that large with a full rewrite. If you do choose to go at it, let me know and I would be happy to review what you add. Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:52, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure I do either, but I think the best way to start is probably to review the GA nom I did years ago and see what is still applicable. --Church Talk 00:47, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Requested move discussion

Please see Talk:2012 Packers–Seahawks officiating controversy#Requested move 2 April 2019 for a requested move discussion I started for 2012 Packers–Seahawks officiating controversy to be moved to Fail Mary. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:51, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Going to be taking Bob Mann (American football) to WP:GA soon. Would appreciate it if anyone wanted to give it a thorough copyedit. Thanks, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:04, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

I have nominated List of broadcasters for Green Bay Packers home games in Milwaukee for deletion here. Please feel free to take part in the discussion. Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 20:37, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

New bot to remove completed infobox requests

Hello! I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject Green Bay Packers since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

I have nominated List of career achievements by Brett Favre for deletion. Please feel free to take part in the discussion. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 17:03, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Anyone interested in collaborating on our newest Packers HoFer, Bobby Dillon? It would be cool to get it to GA and have it on the Main Page during the induction ceremony in August (via WP:DYK), or if we are super ambitious, WP:TFA. El cid, el campeador, I noticed you edited the article, are you interested? Willsome429? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 17:47, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Sure, I am interested. I have never actually participated in the article nomination process though so this will be new. What is the first order of business? ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 18:19, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
It is pretty straightforward. Right now, we just need to expand the article and add citations. I have a Newspapers.com account, so I can look up some old news articles for sources. With his death and recent election to the Hall of Fame, there should be a lot of good sources available. Right now, I am thinking a good outline (section titles) of the article would be:
1) Lead
2) Early life (birth, childhood, high school)
3) College (football career at Texas)
4) Professional career (summary of career with Packers)
5) Personal life (personal details, marriage/children, death)
6) Legacy (Packers record, interception records, hall of fames, etc)
What do you think? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:30, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Sounds good to me! I will try to round up some more good sources and expand in the near future. LEt me know if there is anything specific you'd like help on. Thanks as always for your dedication to Packers' WP. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 19:23, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
  • @Gonzo fan2007: - I am going to keep grinding away at the article, but are there any glaring issues you see, as the article currently stands? I definitely think I/we should try to do more of a season by season summary of his NFL career, but other than that? ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 15:27, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
El cid, el campeador Agree. I was going to expand the lead a bit, and definitely think the NFL career part can be expanded. There will also be a good amount of sourcing stuff and copyediting, but you are doing great! Keep it up. I'll keep going at it as well. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:42, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Green Bay Packers stubs needing SIGCOV

We've begun a campaign to clean up football stubs that lack WP:SIGCOV as required by WP:SPORTBASIC #5. A big chunk of the deficient articles are for individuals who played for the Green Bay Packers. I am hoping that Packers project members are familiar with sources that can be used to dig up SIGCOV and might be willing to help improve these Packers articles. We've also set up a talk page here for any questions or comments you may have. Set forth below is the list of Wisconsin-related articles we hope to improve. Any help is appreciated. Cbl62 (talk) 15:43, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks Cbl62, I moved the table to Wikipedia:WikiProject Green Bay Packers/substubs for retention. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:09, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
