Userbox and template coment

[edit]

Image choice is OK. I thought an amp/pedal combo might look good...and...also contrast the main project boxes...but an amp pic loses clarity when shrunk down into the boxes. I noticed that the template says Equipment and the userbox says Equipments? Should the userbox lose the 's'? My other thought is...even with the pics....the title "WikiProject Equipment" is a little vague. But, in the case of the Userbox anyways, "WikiProject Guitar Equipment"....is a little long. I'll paste alt-title/alt-pic versions below to show the difference.

Is that title too long? Is there an alternative title? Amp pic too small? Opinions? Anger22 08:54, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some thoughts

Sorry I am late to respond to this. I think you are off to a good start with the project banner. I like the graphics. I wanted to throw something on the table to think about, though. Instead of making this another WikiProject, how about making it a task force of the WikiProject Guitarists? In doing this, I think the project banner would be altered somewhat. It would still be the Guitarist banner, but maybe another section would be added with the "amp" or "pedal" graphic that reads, "This article is supported by the Guitar Equipment task force".

Consider how the Military history WikiProject does it, here: Talk:War_of_the_Austrian_Succession. As you can see, the banner is that of the Military history WikiProject, although it falls into the task force they have set up for French military history. What do you think? I would be willing to re-organize the main project page to include this task force and possibly make room for others. --Aguerriero (talk) 14:59, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And that is exactly what I did, what do you think? A task force is a good suggestion, although we still have to find a good name for the task force. So, Guitar Equipment Task Force?? Imoeng 23:28, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think so, if you agree with that name. I will have some time tomorrow to work on this for a while - I will let you know how it goes! --Aguerriero (talk) 14:26, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Amp infobox suggestions

[edit]

Of the top of my head (no pun intended), an amp infobox would probably include things like:

  1. name, manufacturer, and period, obviously
  2. Type (Head, cabinet, or combo- assuming we consider all these "amps" for our purposes)
  3. pre-amp type (tube or solid state) and power amp type (also tube or solid state)
  4. number of channels
  5. wattage
  6. number and size (maybe brand?) of speakers

And there's probably relevant things I've missed, too. Friday (talk) 19:52, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The list looks good to me; in fact, I recently put something like this on the Wikipedia:Requested templates page, but it never got done and has been deleted from that list. How can I get this template created? Should I resubmit my request? JSC ltd 20:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scope Suggestion

[edit]

Despite them not being actual equipment, might I suggest that articles like flanging and distortion (guitar) be included in the scope of the taskforce? --Ortzinator 14:57, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, since they are effects that are created by equipment. Steve CarlsonTalk 18:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Project Directory

[edit]

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:17, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marshall Amplification

[edit]

The Marshall Amplification article is in very bad shape. It need references and a good clean-up. Does anyone have any ideas how we could get this started? I can't find many references, does anyone know where we could find some? A list of current and discontinued products would also be nice. Please reply here or on my talk page. Izzy007 23:41, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the MB series with a reference to the website page, hope that helps :) Tuner420 (talk) 07:18, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fender Wikiproject Proposal

[edit]

I have proposed a Wikiproject for articles relating to Fender. If you are interested, please add you name here. Izzy007 Talk 22:16, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The SWR article

[edit]

I stumbled across this one by accident. It's not a front page name, guitar wise, so it probably doesn;t get many hits. If any of you Equipment PRoject members are looking for a project... here you go. It is likely the worst POV skewed guitar hardware related article in all Wikipedia. It could use some work from someone in-the-know on the subject. If anyone is interested that is. 156.34.210.254 (talk) 01:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you took care of it yourself? Steve CarlsonTalk 18:20, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar model articles

[edit]

Editor Anger22 recently brought up the fact that many of the articles we have for individual guitar models are completely inane and almost empty. A lot of them have 1-2 sentences and an infobox. Please, do not create all these articles if you have no intention of fleshing them out. If you spot them, merge any useful content into the main article for that manufacturer and redirect the article.

A good example is the article ESP LTD H-1000. Redirect to ESP Guitars. --Spike Wilbury talk 15:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Audio clips for equipment?

[edit]

I also posted this on the Guitar Portal noticeboard, but here seems more appropritate. I think it it would be very useful to have audio clips for all the articles that are about gear-related topics, such as effects pedals, distortion, guitar amplifiers, etc. I think these would be most effective if someone recorded a short dry clip using a direct box and then having various members re-amp that clip through different rigs, so that the variance due to playing style and the guitar itself is minimized and the tonal contribution of that particular piece of gear is maximized. I think it would be better if the clip wasn't a song but instead a series of short exercises that employ the most commonly used playing techniques (strumming chords, arpeggiation, single-note runs, double stops, bends, palm mutes, etc), so the user can hear how that piece of gear interacts with that playing technique. I guess it would be best if we standardized on a microphone too - we should probably use the Shure SM57 since it is in such widespread use for this application. What do people think about this idea? Comments? Steve CarlsonTalk 18:06, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

12-string guitar gauges

[edit]

Hello, I went to the Twelve-string guitar for help with set up. I've never bought a '12 string set' of strings and have usually winged it with 2 sets of strings at differernt gauges, but I've never been quite sure I've got it right. I've usually set it so the bass E A D and G are at octaves of each other and then tuned identical B's and treble E's to the same pitch as each other. Might something be added to the article to suggest the most common set up? Even better, would be to also list typical string gauges as well as the notes they are tuned to. Regards --Joopercoopers (talk) 02:14, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We need a general article on string gauge and maybe even a more specific one on guitar string gauge IMO. I've replied a little more at Talk:Twelve-string guitar where you cross-posted this. Andrewa (talk) 09:11, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for review

[edit]

I've been working on article B-Bender and would appreciate a review, comments and some direction on what else it needs, if anything.

Les Paul Studio Tribute

[edit]

I think that the Les Paul 50s and 60s Studio Tribute models need to be covered at Gibson Les Paul Studio. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:30, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Greg Bennett Guitars has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-primary coverage does not appear significant, most mentions are trivial; appears to fail Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

"Like an advert" - better sources?

[edit]

The article on the Epiphone Dot is tagged as being "written like an advertisement". Is anybody aware of any reliable sources describing guitar models that aren't also trying to sell them? Are forums considered reliable in this context? --Nicknack009 (talk) 10:26, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Videos of effect pedals

[edit]

Hello ! I've started adding videos of effect pedals on Commons : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Videos_of_effect_pedals. As of today we have tremolo, vibrato, octaver, delay. They all come from Youtube, Creative Commons. Given the number of pedal demos out there, it shouldn't be difficult to find other and upload them as well :) Cheers Skimel (talk) 22:07, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've added phaser, reverb and wah. Feel free to add them to the relevant articles ;) Skimel (talk) 11:31, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Musical Instruments Task Force

[edit]

I'm introducing myself here. I go by Jacque here on Wikipedia, and am looking to make contact with other editors / writers (I count myself as the latter) interested in musical instruments. I'm just beginning to investigate the writing scene for musical instruments on Wikipedia, but it seems to me that the project I've working on (the WikiProject musical instruments ) is inactive. I don't know about other music related projects. For the WikiProject musical instruments I've begun to do quality and importance assessments for a backlog of 520 articles that haven't been categorized. After I'm finished, I'd like to begin reassessing categorized articles, with the hope that somewhere I (or the invisible others) can begin to improve on some. That will require deciding which articles are most important. It will be a circle of assessing, and then reassessing, until the entire group of articles has been freshly examined

My experience...I have written or greatly expanded several stringed instrument articles, including Mandolin, Citole, Cythara, Mandore (instrument), Gittern, and Algerian mandole without much input from other editors (which makes me somewhat nervous). I am looking to find a few others to look at my work, as I write or (right now edit). I can probably do a fair job on my own articles, but I feel there needs to be multiple voices to organize the volume of writing/editing for an entire grouping as all musical instrument articles. I'm going to contact any music wikiproject I can find, to see if others want to be involved.
