Project Directory
[edit]Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
- User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
- User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
- User:Badbilltucker/Science directory
and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 22:09, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now moved the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 13:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

News
[edit]This Wikiproject is now using the WP:1.0 assessments! The assessment page adn instructions can be found here.
Also I have created a welcome template {{Template:WikiProject Idol series-invite}} for inviting people to the project.
Finally, I propose a separate page for any propasals to this project. Thanks! Tennis DyNamiTe (sign here) 22:44, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia Day Awards
[edit]Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 16:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Problems with Idol series
[edit]On December 2, 2006, Idol series was marked for deletion (the deletion discussion is here). Although it was kept, one of the concerns was that the article was largely unsourced. In order to forestall another (potentially successful) deletion attempt, I tried to find sources for the statements in the article. Unfortunately, I largely failed -- a lot of it seems like original research. Maybe somebody else can take a shot at it? Otherwise, a lot of it may have to be removed, if not the whole article someday. (For notice's sake, I placed a copy of this at Talk:Idol series.) -- ArglebargleIV 18:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Question on American_Idol_Scoreboards
[edit]I'm seeking input on how to handle this article. The user has pasted it's contents into the season 1, 2, 3 and 4 articles. To me, it's just a major eyesore. But I want to find out what you all think we should do with the information, because it is useful info. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 05:48, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think that they aren't really necessary in the season summary articles as we have the Bottom 3 charts/elimination tables. I don't have a problem with it being its own article/list. By the way, why is it called the American Idol scoreboard? Tennis DyNamiTe 23:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Heck if I know. :) --WoohookittyWoohoo! 04:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Many Idol articles have been put up for AFD in history and I think we need to have a guideline to clarify what articles belong on wikipedia and which ones should be deleted. ►Tennis Dynamite◄ 17:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Reality TV star noteability guidelines
[edit]Hello, I've just created a seperate page proposing guidlines for noteability of Reality TV contestants and if they should have their own articles. I did this due to the mass number of articles being created and deleted on these subjects in recent months, and confusion among editors if they are in fact noteable or not. You can read this here. All edits and comments on the talk page are welcome. Thanks, Dalejenkins | 18:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC).
Contestant articles
[edit]I have noticed there has been a lot of discussion off-site about what to do about contestant articles. Here is my opinion:
- Finalists: Create instantly, as they would be at least Mid-importance, even if a stub. (Status quo)
- Semi-finalists: Generally redirect. However, if a decent article can be made up, let it stand (no Stub-Low articles should be made IMO when there is a place to put them, and they would be Low-importance). An example is Ayla Brown. Usually, but not always, that will be because of notability elsewhere.
- Others: Redirect; although their name may not appear on the article it leads to, it would be a deterrant to creating articles when not notable, especially at the start of the season (although I do think there should be a section or separate subarticle for notable auditioners, after all, no other shows in most places, especially the US, can claim to have such high numbers of viewers and the mere sight will get them fanclubs and local recognition). Of course, if they are notable elsewhere or pull off a surprise recording contract, then an article should be made.
CrazyC83 16:36, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I have a question about David Archuleta (singer)'s article (season 7, top 24). He was a finalist in Star Search in 2003. His article was just changed to a redirect to show. Is that not noticable enough to qualify for own article? It had been linked to on the Star Search page for some time, and now that link redirects to Idol... Had no content, but was linked... The redirect just seems wrong for it to me. Jjaazz (talk) 03:28, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Random tidying
[edit]Tidied up some things, mostly fixing capitalization of categories that affected assessment (it's "Idol series" not "Idol Series"). Now the assessment bot counts importance ratings in its statistics as well. Tweaked the project banner to display the importance rating (amazed I didn't break the thing completely). Hunted down every Idol template I could find and put it under the templates section. Also made a userbox, so members can feel fancy being part of the club. =D MissMJ (talk) 22:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Judges comments sections
[edit]Some of the articles have now been filled in with various judges comments. These seem completely trashy and unhelpful except for those who are already very familiar with the contestants. I they all should go unless an outside news media is showing they are somehow extra noteworthy. 71.139.19.188 (talk) 17:22, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
[edit]As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Idol series
[edit]Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Coordinators' working group
[edit]Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:39, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Who are finalists
[edit]In X-factor the finalists are only the 4 acts that appear on the final night, so semi-finalists are those on the penultimate show. How are finalists defined in PI? The acts in the last 12 ???? There is a discrepancy where probably notable acts on X-factor do not have an article because they were not "finalists" and non-notables in idol get pages because they are in the last 12. --Triwbe (talk) 07:52, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Season template
[edit]I'm working on a new infobox for seasons of Idol shows, so we can save {{Infobox television}} for the main series page where it belongs. {{Infobox Idol season}} is currently under construction, all it needs is a way to hide the Winner section until a winner has been declared, and any possible other fields that could work good in there. What do you think?
p.s. Due to possibilities it may counter with NFCC 4, you can't put a logo in the new infobox, because the logo barely changes anyway unlike some other reality shows. ViperSnake151 00:46, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Request for comment on Biographies of living people
[edit]Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:
Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.
The two opposing positions which have the most support is:
- supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
- opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect
Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.
Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Hello. Dominika Stará is a young pop singer who won third place in the Czecho-Slovak joint contest Česko Slovenská Superstar, held in 2009. The participation in the contest is the only thing she is known for and the subject totally fails WP:MUSICBIO (in my opinion), as there are no sources indicating her notability outside of the contest. The issue was discussed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Czech_Republic#.C4.8Cesko_Slovensk.C3.A1_Superstar and the consensus was that the article should be redirected to Česko Slovenská Superstar (the same solution is used on the Czech Wikipedia). I've redirected the unreferenced and promotional article to the main contest article. Now I'm starting to become involved in one of the endless revert battles with a single-purpose account refusing any communication. On the other hand, this project allows existence of stand-alone articles for the finalists of the contests. Dumb reverting is boring, please advise me, should we follow WP:MUSICBIO and WP:BLP1E or the recommendations of WP:IDOL? Thank you in advance. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 09:37, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Idol series articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
[edit]Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Idol series articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

There isn't bottom two (or three) in Nouvelle Star (French version of Pop Idol)
[edit]I'm not sure if it's the right place.
Unlike American Idol, Nouvelle Star (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nouvelle_Star ) doesn't have bottom two (nor three). We only know who has the least votes.
I only watched season 7 and 8, and it's definitively sure that these two seasons don't have bottom two.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nouvelle_Star : - "Virginie (the host) selects at random the saved contestants leaving only the ones dropped by the viewers."
That's right.

I think all the "performance" tables should have 'date performed', 'order #' and 'result' eliminated
[edit]I've noticed there is some variances of the performances list from season to season and even between artists of the same season, I don't necessarily think they all have to match exactly. However the addition of columns for "date the performance aired," "order number," and "result" come off to me as not very compelling or encyclopedic information. It adds clutter and I feel degrades from the actual encyclopedic information that people (not diehard fans of the show) would be interested in. The date the performance aired is redundant. I doubt anyone really cares that much, but if they did they could easily verify that information, frankly it matters more what year and that should be self evident in the accompanying text. The "order #," I feel, completely comes of as a fan blog, akin to what outfis the judges were wearing or how many musicians were on stage during a certain performance. Over the years the only credible information about the order number revealed by the producers is that they have to craft a good show each night so may start off and end with better performances, beside that they have avoid appearances of favoritism. So the "order #" effectively tells us nothing unless it can be proved that the order they perform in means something, which the producers have confirmed it doesn't. The "result" column also feels like it would be better on a fan's blog, not an encyclopedia. The only surprising thing presented here is that some of the winners have been in the announced bottom two, three, four, etc. And if that is really surprising we should put that in the prose, not the table, "fabulous contestant X was in the bottom 3 twice before winning the show." Certainly we don't need to actually state the obvious that each contestant "advanced" each week. That is also self-evident that they are still in the competition. And the bottom two or three is also up for debate as these are who is announced but since the votes are kept private we can never know. So we are assuming they are in the bottom two or three because they got the least votes, but that's unverifiable. I did see one chart at David_Archuleta#2007.E2.80.9308:_American_Idol_and_David_Archuleta which looks nice but I'm not sure if it needs to be sortable by each column. I am willing to help change all the charts if who will do the work is an issue. Any comments?Insomesia (talk) 20:22, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Merge proposal encountering some opposition
[edit]I had BOLDly redirected List of Pakistan Idol finalists to Pakistan Idol, in part because there was exactly one entry there, and only one season of Pakistan Idol has aired (and is still airing), so per WP:XBALL, we can't exactly presume that more seasons will occur (and even then, there's not much reason why the finalists shouldn't just be listed in the main article or each season, as they probably will be). That was reverted, and so I tagged the list article with a merge to Pakistan Idol (season 1), since there's only content from Season 1. I also started a discussion at Talk:Pakistan Idol (season 1), which has received no input. Instead, the proposed merger tags were removed without discussion, and instead HTML comments were inserted directing editors not to add proposal tags to the article. I reverted that directing editors to discuss the proposal. No discussion is forthcoming, so I'm calling for wider participation here, as well as at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television/Reality television task force. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 19:07, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Leaflet for Wikiproject Idol Series at Wikimania 2014
[edit]Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
[edit]Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
[edit]Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Tables
[edit]Is it okay if I revamp the tables 'cause I feel the style is outdated. I would like to implement the said changes for the upcoming Idol Philippines franchise.--AR E N Z O Y 1 6A•t a l k• 15:20, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
A new newsletter directory is out!
[edit]A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
