welcome note[edit]
Can the welcome note be made a little more generic so that we can welcome users joining up on the child projects as well (so instead of India wikiproject, something like one of India wikiprojects). I know there will be a better phrase. My mind is crying for sleep right now so cant think properly -- Lost(talk) 17:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Newsletter[edit]

- The Newsletter is released bi-monthly. The latest issue was released in March. You did not receive it as you had signed up to receive the newsletter only on 5th April. The next one would be out sometime this month, hopefully quite soon.--thunderboltz(TALK) 16:19, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

New Volunteer coordinator for the Newsletter for WikiProject India[edit]
We have been requesting the community at large in general for Volunteer coordinators for all the task forces/departments of WikiProject India. We have also been requesting suitable editors to volunteer for this post. We have been making this request in those departments where no one can be seen taking up a clear leadership role to champion the cause of the WikiProject. In this case however, User:Prad2609 has volunteered for the Newsletter even before we began considering its revival :). We welcome him in this onerous and prestigious venture and request all WikiProject members to cooperate with him.
Prad2609 is an enthusiastic and balanced editor. He has 1016 edits since 21 November 2007 and is a well-known participant in real-life community ventures. Last year, he played a key role in organising WikiConference 2011. Prad2609 has a challenging task in front of him. The WikiProject has only 67 articles and many more undiscovered ones to steward. The daughter projects have 314 rail and 626 road articles. Please support him not only with moral support but edits, ideas, engagement and encouragement. AshLin (talk) 06:34, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
User:Prad2609 will need co-editors to work alongside with him, especially as the challenge of a resuscitating a defunct newsletter is so great and there are so many things to do. Any editor of good standing can volunteer to help Prad2609 in this initiative. We do hope that responsible editors in adequate numbers will volunteer to help him. More about volunter coordinators[edit]
The volunteer coordinator's roles include:
- Do whatever needs doing in the WikiProject/task force, or getting it done along-with others.
- Do everything that needs doing in the task force, or getting it done along-with others.
- Look after the interests of the task force community in general and the articles in specific.
- Represent the views of the task force wherever representation/participation is sought; to get a consensus where required and put forward the community's viewpoint.
- Innovate and bring forth new initiatives, continue existing ones and retire defunct ones.
- Maintain the task force infrastructure of pages.
- Community development - recruitment, motivation, empowerment.
- Join the mailing list for Wikipedians working on India related content on English Wikipedia (wikimedia-in-en [at] lists [dot] wikimedia [dot] org)
- Provide reports, updates to the Community, for the newsleter and keep the community updated in general.
The Volunteer coordinator is a volunteer from the community and is answerable to the community. The volunteer enjoys the informal recognition and full support of the community. A volunteer coordinator is equal in all respects to all other editors except that he/she has the privilege to work on the WikiProject's wide range of interests. We trust him/her to take the best decisions and right actions. It is prestigious to be a volunteer coordinator as it signifies community trust reposed in an editor.
