Project/Article/Area of the month[edit]

Do you think it would be worthwhile having a Project for us all to work on, i.e a Subject or a number of pages relating to that subject (many hands make light work)?

This would only work if we actively work on that area, otherwise the proposer may end up being the only one working and possibly become demotivated.

We could individually select an area to work on, get ideas for improvement from the group, and review each others work after a month. Olive Oil 11:33, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We could have a monthly selection of about 5 articles, known as this months collaboration. A town, a village, a biography, a building etc. We would have a rule, every member listed on the project page has to make a contribution. For example, just reading the article and commenting on any scope for improvement, or even just a grammar change. A weekly reminder for any members not contributing. I like your enthusiasm, i'm just concerned that with only two or three of us being active and only half a dozen names on the list, it could end up with just two names left. I agree though a small contribution on a few articles is not too much to ask for, and it would sort out the 'wheat from the chaff'.
By the way, what should i call you MortimerCat, Mortimer, Mort, Cat, MC or ??? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 18:17, 17 February 2007 (UTC) Chris[reply]
Sounds very onerous, and would likely put of new members from a still very young wikiproject. Possible more suitable for a larger project (ie more members - there are more than 3 of us from Kent!!!). Also it may be beyond some one's area of expertise - i can prattle on all day about motorcycles, defence, transport, etc but don't really have the foggiest about marine life in the River Stour say.... Pickle - I think you underestimate yourself, i'm sure all of us could add an opinion on 'scope for improvement' or 'an idea' for the {{WikiProject Kent| suggestions = }} template - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 18:25, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It did cross my mind that the less active might remove their names. On the other hand, it may encourage them join in? If you do not know about marine life in the River Stour, then you need to look it up on Wikipedia. When you do, did the article tell you what you wanted to know. Input from non-experts is useful too. Nominations[edit]

  1. Kent (obviously) - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 08:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(how about marine life in the River Stour - lol)

Trial collaboration[edit]

That was a nifty bit of thinking. Lets make Feb 19th to 25th Kent as a trial collaboration of the week. We all should visit the Kent article to make either amendments or comments. Plus, we need to come up with a message for the other members who may not be reading this notice. If we agree. then we can think about spamming some non-member editors, and advertise on the UK project pages MortimerCat 10:18, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed text (feel free to edit, but please record your changes):

Are you going to post this today, on members talk pages, in preparation? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 10:35, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'll do it sometime this afternoon. Do you think we need our logo? MortimerCat 10:48, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the logo would be good for the "corporate" image - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 14:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was hoping you would add the logo :) MortimerCat 15:35, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi fellow WikiProject Kent Member, you may have already seen this on our Kent project talk page. We are planning a small drive on the Kent article this week, 19th to 25th Feb. All we are asking is for you to read the page and talk page carefully. After digesting that information, then we would like you to make one edit.

This edit can be to either the main article or to the talk page. Something as small as a spelling, grammar or punctuation correction is all we are asking. Alternatively, make suggestions on the talk page. Which sections need a rewrite, is the section order logical, are there any questionable facts. Anything! In the words of Wikipedia, BE BOLD.

Everyone who used the Wikiproject Kent Userbox, now has the message on their talk page. MortimerCat 19:39, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam[edit]

What do you think? - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 15:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like it apart from the Portal icon. It falls outside the box for me? I feel it would be better to "spam" strangers once some Kent project members have made comments on the page. I would be more likely to join in if there is evidence that something is happening. MortimerCat 19:46, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about we create a list of contributors to "Kent" related articles from our watchlists ready for an invitation to join the Project - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 12:29, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kent Drive debriefing[edit]

I think the drive was successful, we had 4 out of the 7 members making changes, and the number of edits increased from the previous week.

My suggestion for March is to have Kent as a collaboration of the Month. Each week (Mon to Sun) we can concentrate on a particular subject. For example "Sorting out the historical divisions", "Cite Source Week", "Choosing more pictures".

On Sunday, mail our members telling them about next weeks theme. On Friday, send reminders to non-contributors.

We can send out adverts to non-members at the beginning of the month, telling them about the months collaboration. However, I would suggest we take some care in choosing these non-members, not just extracting them from the history. Only "spamming" those who are actively editing Kent based articles. This will save us time unnecessarily annoying those who are not interested in Kent. MortimerCat 19:31, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 01:14, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've created the template {{WikiProject Kent}}, instructions, and its Categorys, I think this can supersede the {{WikiProject Kent improve}} and {{WikiProject Kent}} templates for use on every Kent-related articles Talk page. I think we should have another collaboration aimed at categorising all of the related pages. Ultimately this will help us focus on the priority articles and improving the most important. - Olive Oil -ŢάĽɮ - 08:47, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
