WikiProject Louisiana banner hijacked[edit]

Long ago the WikiProject Louisiana talk page banner was hijacked, so readers are directed to post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States instead. This undermines any Louisiana community of editors. There's a proposal to undo the hijack at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States#Undo hijack of WikiProject Louisiana. Please support or comment there (not here). --Doncram (talk, contribs) 00:21, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So, did this banner get recreated? -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 22:53, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Merge WP:NOLA into WP:Lousiana as a taskforce[edit]

An editor has requested that Wikipedia:WikiProject New Orleans be moved to another page, which may be of interest to this WikiProject. You are invited to participate in the move discussion. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 22:43, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bel[edit]

Thanks to Bel, Louisiana (AfD discussion) we now know that we didn't even know that we were missing J. A. Bel/John Albert Bel and his turn of the 20th century lumber business, and later Estate and Oil companies. Another one for whatever to-do lists you might be maintaining. Wikimedia Commons[edit]

As far as I could see, there has been no active WikiProject Louisiana on Commons, so I started one there: Commons:Category:WikiProject_Louisiana Participation from Wikipedians also active on Commons is very welcome there, as are questions or discussion about coordinating Commons media with en:Wikipedia. Parish Names en françis, español, etc.[edit]

It looks like back in 2009, French-language forms for a number of parish names were added by an IP editor. More recently, another IP editor has been adding Spanish-language forms. I don't have an issue with that when there's contemporary or historical use of another language for the parish, especially if the form of the name changes (i.e., Red River Parish vs. Paroisse de la Rivière-Rouge; but I'm much less sure of this for Tangipahoa Parish, both because the parish was formed long after French or Spanish rule and the only change is from "Parish" to "Paroisse de" or Parroquia de. Before I start some WP:BOLD reverting, I was wondering what others thought. Are French and Spanish forms appropriate for all Louisiana parishes? Or just for ones where there is reliably sourced contemporary or historical use. (And if the latter, what level of use should be considered; if the parish sheriff has a versions of its webpage in French, Spanish, Italian, and Vietnamese, do we need to put all those language forms up? Only when it changes the non-"parish" part of the name?). Thanks. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 19:44, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
