GA reassessment of Demi's Birthday Suit

Stale
 – Over a year and a half ago.

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. You are being notified as your project's banner is on the article talk page. I have found some concerns which you can see at Talk:Demi's Birthday Suit/GA2. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. –– Jezhotwells (talk) 01:48, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Opinion needed

Stale
 – Topic moribund at linked page since August 2010.

Categorizing question

Resolved
 – It should of course be categorized as both.

C-SPAN improvement project

Resolved

Because the TV channel C-SPAN falls under the scope of this WikiProject, I want to make an announcement, a disclosure and a request for assistance.

The announcement is that I am interested in updating and improving several articles and some non-article pages (such as categories) related to C-SPAN, its shows and related subjects.

The disclosure is that I work with C-SPAN's communications team, so I have a potential conflict of interest with the subject, and I've already posted a similar notice on the Conflict of interest/Noticeboard discussion page. Also: this is not my primary account, but one I plan to use for potential COI topics; I've posted a thorough explanation of this account's creation on my user page.

The request is for your assistance. I intend for any edits I make to be constructive, although with the exception of non-controversial edits, that can be in the eye of the beholder. I've found in my early outreach / requests for help only silence, so I am hoping to find someone willing to look over my shoulder, and provide a non-conflicted perspective. I'll watchlist this page, but also feel free to leave a comment on my Talk page.

First things first, the articles Q&A (talk show) and Q & A (C-SPAN) are about the exact same C-SPAN series. I've proposed a merger on the former's Talk page, and while I suppose it's as unobjectionable an edit as can be, demonstrating good faith is important to me as I get started. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 19:31, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Q&A replacement suggestion

Resolved

I posted a request here recently (see above) regarding improvements to the Wikipedia article about the C-SPAN TV show Q&A. That has since been resolved, and my second wish is now to replace that article’s text with a better one of my drafting, available in my subspace here. This article is currently a stub and I have written an expanded version to include just a bit more information, with reliable sources (online and offline) to verify the material. I followed the MOS for TV series in re-organizing the page, and have added an infobox. As stated before, I have a potential COI with this subject, so I would appreciate any feedback from a non-conflicted point of view. If you like the replacement, please feel free to move it. If you have any questions, I’ll be watching this page and my Talk page. And since I don’t think this update is at all controversial, if there are no objections within a reasonable time period, I may just move it myself. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 14:20, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Update: settled here. WWB Too (talk) 19:33, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

A discussion has begun about whether the article Werner Erhard vs. Columbia Broadcasting System, which is relevant to the subject of this WikiProject, should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Werner Erhard vs. Columbia Broadcasting System until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 18:04, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

There are a number of discussion threads in the talk page concerning what this article should be called and also on whether the scope needs to be decided first. Members of this project may wish to participate.

Discussions on the name include whether the name should be simply "Jewish control of the media", whether it should have terms that identify it as a myth, conspiracy theory or antisemitic canard, or whether it should include terms such as "accusations" or "allegations" which identify the allegations/accusations as a matter of debate without assuming an a priori stance. Discussions on scope include whether it should be confined purely to the conspiracy theory or should look for evidence of Jewish influence on the media, whether it should include matters regarding Israel/Zionism, and whether it should be rolled up into a broader article on the Jewish World Conspiracy which currently exists only as a redirect.--Peter cohen (talk) 00:58, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

I have now nominated this article for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Allegations_of_Jewish_control_of_the_media.

Media articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Unresolved
 – When requested review is performed, this should be marked "Resolved" and archived.

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Media articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

C-SPAN video + External links project invite

 – Notice of and request for participation at a project-relevant article.

I'd like to invite anyone involved with this project to help out with a project I have been working on related to C-SPAN. The C-SPAN Video Library has thousands of landing pages about specific individuals who have appeared on the network, and Wikipedia editors have recognized the value of including these in External links by creating Template:C-SPAN and adding a relevant parameter in Template:CongLinks.

Unsurprisingly, however, the C-SPAN Video Library link is missing from many articles, including a few that may surprise: George H.W. Bush for one, and Edward Kennedy for another. I work with C-SPAN's media team (I helped bring their main article up to GA status earlier this year) and I suggested that I find as many gaps as possible and then seek to invite other editors to help fill them. They agreed. To this end I have started a project page in my own user space to identify pages where it is missing and make available the specific markup text necessary to include that link, and keeping whatever relevant markup was there before. You can see the first few I have located here, and more will be posted soon: User:WWB_Too/C-SPAN_ELs

I'm posting this here because the main C-SPAN page is included in this WikiProject, and I figure I stand the best chance of finding interested collaborators here. Please let me know if you'd like to help, or if you have any other questions. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 19:54, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

 – Notice of and request for participation at a project-relevant article.

Hi! I have recently decided to take on the mass media article (which is a VA - vital article) as a pet project. The article is currently a stub class. At the moment I am trying to work through it, albeit at a snails pace, and as a less-than-experienced editor, I am finding it to be quite a challenge. My aim is to rally together a few editors from various Wikiprojects to bring their unique skills and knowledge to help this important article grow and flourish. I was wondering if anyone from your project could give me a hand. --Coin945 (talk) 08:22, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Categorization of articles on media

{{Unresolved|1=Category cleanup proposal was deleted by malfunctioning bot before ever being discussed. Restored 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC). Category:Mass media belong to the categories Communication, Public opinion, Entertainment and Popular culture. There is nothing called "Media" or "Communication media", so the article Media (communication) is left without an own category. That's not what happens in several Wikipedias, for example the German, Franch, Latin, Dutch, Indonesian, Portuguese and Spanish versions. In addition, very little categories within Category:Mass media include the word "mass". Shoulkd we let everything as it is, rename the category to Category:Communication media, or split some categories into this new one? --NaBUru38 (talk) 00:02, 14 May 2011 (UTC); updated 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Merge redundant media projects into taskforces/workgroups

Unresolved
 – Project merge proposal was deleted by malfunctioning bot before ever begin discussed. Restored 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC).

There are too many media-related WikiProjects. Just for starters, WP:JOURN and WP:MAG should arguably merge into WP:WPMEDIA absent some really compelling reason not to. It's completely absurd that all three of these projects have banners at places like Talk:Sports Illustrated (and there are probably even worse examples, with 5 or more media-related project banners, for topics that span more than one medium). — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 01:01, 25 September 2010 (UTC); updated 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Merge proposal: WikiProject Journalism into WikiProject Media

I propose a merger, right now, of WP:JOURN into WP:WPMEDIA as a task force a.k.a. work group, as it serves no real purpose being separate, and does nothing unique that I can see other than lead to more talk page clutter and lot of identical talk page posts, meanwhile confusing editors as to which project page they should take their issues to. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 01:01, 25 September 2010 (UTC); updated 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Preliminary merge proposal discussion: Medium-specific (film, TV, magazines, etc.) projects into WikiProject Media

I also, but separately, propose a serious discussion about merging, down the road, all the medium-specific projects into this one (WP:FILM, WP:MAG, WP:TV, etc.), for the sake of centralization and consistency, and again for reduction of talk page clutter. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 01:01, 25 September 2010 (UTC); updated 14:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Proposed rename

After all's said and done, and regardless of the resolution of the above, this should be renamed to WikiProject Mass media, with a WP:MASSMEDIA shortcut, because "media" is too vague and ambiguous (see WP:MEDIA for just how much so), and we all know this project is about mass media, not every possible medium of expression, like very small oil paintings being used as postcards, or communicating artistic expression through posing nude in public, or whatever. It's about mainstream publication and communication media. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 14:45, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

C-SPAN Video Library / External links project

Hi, I'd like to invite any interested editors to help with a project adding links to C-SPAN interviews with notable public figures to those Wikipedia articles.

The basic idea is that there are many articles about public figures who have a page on the C-SPAN Video Library and, while there are templates with parameters for C-SPAN website URLs in External links sections, many articles do not currently include them. For example, in the George H.W. Bush article, you can see that a link has been added for "Appearances on C-SPAN programs". These links are potentially a great resource for readers of the articles they're added to and also for editors who can use the interviews to add more detail to articles.

I created a Reward board entry for the project—I am working with C-SPAN on this project—so if you're able to help out you can claim the rewards (a barnstar-style award, and C-SPAN hat) described there. The full list of articles to add links to, with instructions, is in my user space: User:WWB Too/C-SPAN ELs

Let me know if you'd like to help out. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 16:22, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Fuck is a 2005 American documentary film by director Steve Anderson, which argues that the word is key to discussions about freedom of speech and censorship. The film provides perspectives from art, linguistics, society and comedy. Linguist Reinhold Albert Aman, journalism analyst David Shaw, language professor Geoffrey Nunberg and Oxford English Dictionary editor Jesse Sheidlower explain the term's history and evolution. The film features the last interview of author Hunter S. Thompson before his suicide. It was first shown at the AFI Film Festival at ArcLight Hollywood; it has subsequently been released on DVD in America and in the UK and used as a resource on several university courses. The New York Times critic A. O. Scott called the film a battle between advocates of morality and supporters of freedom of expression, while other reviews criticized its length and repetitiveness. Law professor Christopher M. Fairman commented on the film's importance in his 2009 book on the same subject. The American Film Institute said, "Ultimately, [it] is a movie about free speech ... Freedom of expression must extend to words that offend." (Full article...)

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:15, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Four-paragraph leads -- a WP:RfC on the matter

Hello, everyone. There is a WP:RfC on whether or not the leads of articles should generally be no longer than four paragraphs (refer to WP:Manual of Style/Lead section for the current guideline). As this will affect Wikipedia on a wide scale, including WikiProjects that often deal with article formatting, if the proposed change is implemented, I invite you to the discussion; see here: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Lead section#RFC on four paragraph lead. Leaflet For Wikiproject Media At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Unresolved
 – When this feature is installed in the project, this should be marked "Resolved" and archived.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:18, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
