Article Creation and Improvement[edit]

Aim to create an average of one a day here and minimum of start class. Improvement ideas can come from this category. Can pick articles far away from, or close to, B-class, and improve as needed, and then submit for reassessment. Can also take stubs and do the same. But need to get articles assessed before doing this. B-class reviews submitted here. Wider review department is here. For GA-class articles, A-class articles and FA-class articles, there is a review process, and often peer review is needed as well. One possibility here is finding a delisted article and working to get it back to GA or FA (check to see if A-class articles get delisted).

Initial article assessments: .1 Pts[edit]

Am here trying to find articles on the edge of the task force scope, or new articles that have not been assessed yet. Try and bring some of these to higher class levels. There are ways to systematically find articles in scope that haven't been tagged or assessed yet, but haven't done that yet. A random estimate, presuming not everything has been tagged, could be up to 50 assessments here in January, but many people assess articles themselves when they create them, so this is no always possible.

Complete B-Class checklist: .1 Pts[edit]

Do more of these. Category:Start-Class World War I articles is a good starting point - currently 5,370 pages - many will be missing checklists, try and do mixture of articles all the way from clearly not B-class to those that are B-class.

Submit a peer review: 1 Pts[edit]

This is the project-internal review stage after B-class but before A-class, and is described at WP:MHPR.

DYK: 5 Pts[edit]

Takes a long time and needs rock-solid and interesting hook. Aim for at least four in total here for January.

ITN: 10 Pts[edit]

This is very difficult. Lots of news stories touch on World War I, but most are not of "international interest", and even those that are need to be picked up on quickly to avoid being "old news". News trackers can be set up to deliver automatic notifications.

  • Failed submission for Siegfried Sassoon (new set of his personal papers purchased by Cambridge University for £1.25 million after 6-month fund-raising campaign) - might have been significant enough for "international interest" but was submitted too late.
  • Failed submission for Florence Green (but in any case, I didn't do the update here).
  • Successful submission for Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery.

FL: 40 Pts[edit]

Featured lists. Either start from scratch where there are possibilities, or take an existing list. Some are categorised as lists, but many are not collected by category or meta-lists. See Category:Military lists of World War I and Category:Lists of military units and formations of World War I and Lists of World War I topics.

FP: 40 Pts[edit]

Need to restore or take the picture yourself or (rarely) find and upload a picture that is already FA quality from some institute somewhere, but most pictures need restoring. Maybe find a picture that only needs a little bit of restoring, as I am not confident about my abilities to do restorations. Taking a WWI picture is possible, but would involve having a good camera and doing a portfolio of shots of something (e.g. a battlefield or memorial). Other possibility here is nominating some PD artwork - see World War I in art and literature for possibilities. Also browse Commons for ideas: Commons:Category:World War I.

FS: 40 Pts[edit]

Very rare. Consider if wanting to get a "full house" of points. It is a challenge to even think what would be suitable for featured sounds for World War I. Look at existing featured sounds for ideas. Portal:Featured sounds has some. And looking there, we have this one, which is a restored recording of Oh! How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning. There is also this one which is the right sort of date, but might not be anything to do with World War I. Other ideas: musicals, military music, memorial music such as The Last Post, video clips (it seems featured sounds includes video clips), recordings of speeches around the time of World War I, public domain World War I films (such as public information films and propaganda films), and recordings of war poets reading their poems. For more ideas, see Category:World War I musicals, Category:World War I poems, Category:World War I films, Category:World War I propaganda films, Media of World War I, an archive of WWI media, and of course, footage of actual conflict where free licensing is possible (most of this is better accessed through documentaries and readers should be directed there, but a clip or two would be nice). There is also the archive footage of unveiling of memorials. Double-check whether video clips are featured "sounds" or featured "pictures".

FT: 10 Pts per article in topic[edit]

Need to double-check what is needed here.

GT: 10 Pts per article in topic[edit]

Need to double-check what is needed here.

Review of a PR, GAN, ACR or FAC: 2 Pts[edit]

To do these, need to look out for reviews and submit a review. Without getting too caught up in the article itself (a weakness of mine when it comes to doing reviews). Add some links here: WP:MHPR, WP:GAN, WP:MHR#A-CLASS, WP:FAC. Easiest here is to follow the task force talk page to become aware when WWI articles have been nominated, and to review that way. Also follow these pages: Template:WPMILHIST Announcements/World War I; Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/World War I task force/Article alerts.
