Scope question[edit]

Should the list be limited to only populated places? The Defense Mapping Agency in its listings lists valleys, rivers, streams, hills, mountains, and various other geographic features as well. I would think that in many cases, whether they're actually listed as such or not, those might well be populated too. John Carter (talk) 15:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest definitively populated places first - we would need sources to assert notability of any borderline cases Fritzpoll (talk) 15:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources?[edit]

Where are you guys getting the information to generate the lists? I've found one site, The Geographic Names Information System, for the US, but it is kinda cumbersome. What sites are you all using? John Carter (talk) 21:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency is the site we are using, and using maplandia for guidance ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox format[edit]

Are the Afghanistan articles like Bazgir, Badakhshan representative of the output of your bot? I really dislike the infobox in that article. Please don't list all unused parameters. It makes the editable text almost uneditable for inexperienced editors (which are the most probably contributors for this kind of articles).

Apart from that, it's a wonderful idea. -- Eugène van der Pijll (talk) 13:50, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well we can take out some of the unused paramters certainly. Perhaps you could join in at the Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/FritzpollBot creating millions of new articles‎ (despite the bot already selaed for approval) ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:34, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Missing topics and smaller communities[edit]

Greetings. I was recently alerted to the existence of this project. I have collected a list of missing places related to various locations and I hope that somebody could have a good look at that.

A while ago I also tried to create a sort of guidelines for writing articles about smaller communities but that project has been in a hiatus for some time. - Skysmith (talk) 09:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing[edit]

I've added references to all the places in Anguilla that I to date have been able to find outside references for, and found in at least that case there are a lot of them that right now can't be really easily immediately verified as notable by outside sources. Maybe it might work best to just create only those which can be immediately verified, maybe by the means done there or something similar, to ensure that only those which can be verifiably proven to be notable get created immediately. Alphabetization script?[edit]

Can anyone think of a way to sort the entries in that list alphabetically without destroying the wikilinks? That would make checking the American Samoa article so much easier. --NickPenguin(contribs) 02:55, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A question[edit]

What should I do if an article already exists under a differnet name? SYSS Mouse (talk) 17:08, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you've got a specific example in mind, it would help to know. Otherwise, you can always create a redirect using the name you know of. John Carter (talk) 20:29, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
