Proposed Ideas[edit]

-Just started a new section called 'Musical Styles' and think this may be the place to include samples of styles Jones worked with. The challenge is the fact he was prolific, so if we pick examples of broad selections, like an 'ambient' track, a 'hip hop' track, a more 'ethnic' sounding track--we can cover some broad areas.

-Another complication is that more information can easily be posted, such as stories behind the album covers, who designed them--which is important. However, only the upcoming book has sourced information on that aspect. So do we wait until the book comes out to source it? Anyone know of any articles on the topic? Do we post now or wait until publication/public availability to source additional details?

-What's your view on a research methodology section in the page?

-As for images, I think it would be a good idea to put back the show posters or live performance photos. The site runner of Arabbox gave me clearance to use them--as that was a problem with previous Wikipedia posting. If the feature status Eliott Smith entry can show live footage, why can't Muslimgauze? Repeated citations[edit]

To re-use a citation, first name it.

<ref name="NYTimes16Jan2008">Khider, I. ''Muslisgauze was here''</ref>

Then in subsequent references use the singleton <ref> tag calling the name of the first tag.

Note the end slash–this is needed to identify the tag as a singleton (not enclosing other data). Not including that slash will cause problems.

A more sophisticated approach uses the {{Harvard citation}}, which allows multiple citations to different pages in the same source. You can see how this looks in Nathanson and Young#References, where various page citations to "Nathanson & Young 2001" link to the same source.

This above user who goes by IP is stirring up b.s. I made up a talk page for him/her. The user made various claims but offers no specific objections. Hence I see the user as making empty statements. If someone specifically has a problem with a paragraph, sentence or entry and can demonstrate error, I'm all for change and adjustment--otherwise it's just BS.I. I say we follow what the other editor says as zines and independent magazines should not be used as sources. There is no editor vouching for factual accuracy, there are no fact checkers, and various other things that more serious journalists and magazines use. Why should we believe these sources? How do we know the interviewee said those things? I can make up my own fan zine and magazine and make up any quote I want--can you prove I didn't? Images[edit]

Posters may be copyrighted works; if so, they would be unusable. Performance photos are acceptable if the copyright owner (usually the photographer) grants essentially unlimited free use; however, most published photographs are under more restrictive copyright. If anyone here knows a Muslimgauze photographer, it would be helpful to ask them if they would release a few photos under GFDL so they can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. It is unlikely that we can claim fair use on performance photos.

Sound samples[edit]

If someone could recommend short excerpts for any particular article or section, I could edit and upload sound files for use in Muslimgauze articles. (I have most of the albums.) Note: audio clips must be relevant to specific points made in the article, and short enough to comply with Wikipedia:Music samples. All I would need would be someone to propose specific excerpts like this:

For Red Madrassa article, Red Madrassa, "Rhodesia" 2:35-2:55, Caption: from "Rhodesia". This sample is used throughout the 20 minute track

I think audio samples make a lot of sense for music articles. I have made several in the past. These need to include the following templates, filled out correctly:

Discography[edit]

Sorry to bug you folks. User:I. Khider and myself have been involved in a discussion about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I'm not happy with the way that it has been going.
