Issue with rating template[edit]

Hello everyone there seems to a be a partial issue with the rating template. I thought I would just inform everyone of it so hopefully it can be fixed.

For, WikiProject New York City:
housing has to be uncapitalized to work in housing-importance=

While for WikiProject New York (state):
it has to be capitalized, Housing-importance=

Hi LoomCreek, thanks for noting that! I came across the same bug earlier and asked on the WikiProject NY State template talk page for it to be fixed [1]. Sadly at the moment we can only really wait for someone with template editing access to change it there. For now, I think it's best to use the lowercase version, though it won't properly categorize pages until the main template's edited.
P.S. I wrote the 1907 Strike article just before heading out for the evening last night, found the library of congress image on the train, and was trying to figure out how to upload it to commons from my phone when I saw you beat me to it lol. Thanks for adding it! Relatedly, I've got a copy of Ronald Lawson's 1986 book (I borrowed it from a library for Urban Homesteading Assistance Board, used it in the 1907 article and plan to use it in a few more before returning), which contains images published ~1907, that should therefore be public domain! It's fixed! TheTranarchist ⚧ Ⓐ (talk) 21:03, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, greatly appreciated! - LoomCreek (talk) 22:03, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah ofc! Adding images to Wikimedia commons is a bit of a process that takes some time at first.
The nice thing about library of congress photos noted to be in the public domain, is that they all are already added to the commons! Through (presumably) a crawler, It's just a case of properly finding them there. Which is why I was so fast with it.
Also excited to see what other images were published from the time.
I've seen some nyc eviction photos online, dated between 1907-1920. See here, also at the LOC. So if any of the photos in the book, end up matching one of those, we could actually narrow the dates of the high quality versions. (The LOC photos I've checked are listed in the public domain as well!)
Anyways thanks for creating the page so fast, it's nice to see so many active editors on here.

Found an online copy of the images so I wouldn't have to use my scanner lol.[2]. Thanks for the heads up about LOC items being automatically loaded! Sadly it seems only the first 6 images are public domain. I've been trying to track down the "UPI/Bettmann Newsphotos" pics, but couldn't find them. I did find out Getty images got the Bettmann archives, and these salient pictures[3][4] they claim are copyrighted, but they're published before 1928 so I'm thinking there might be a free copy somewhere.
And no problem, thanks for joining us! I've been doing categorization/maintenance stuff for a while and wanted to do a little writing again lol. TheTranarchist ⚧ Ⓐ (talk) 22:36, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Found one! It is most definitely public domain it was published in the 1870s [5] LoomCreek (talk) 00:01, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a link to the actual journal page it's from, Harper Weekly, archive LoomCreek (talk) 00:42, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(The second one is unfortunately a photo from 1933 so is definitely copyrighted) LoomCreek (talk) 00:06, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit-a-thon proposal[edit]

Hey y'all! I've been discussing this (mostly off-wiki on the Wikimedia NYC discord / WikiWednesdays) and wanting to organize it for a while. I was thinking the event would be 2-4 weeks, sometime soon (this month or next hopefully), and mostly online but with in-person events as well.

This was originally mostly inspired by seeing the good work the WikiProject Organized Labor February 2023 edit-a-thon did. Asking in the NYC discord I was directed to past edit-a-thon collaborations with the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (hosting) / Interference Archive / the Tompkins Square Branch of the NYPL in February, March, April, and May 2021 (See edit-a-thon details here) dedicated to the highly overlapping topic of activism in the Lower East Side.

I was recommended to reach out to @Mlan456 (a previous facilitator) about collaboration with the MoRUS which I just did on their talk page. Looking through the past events I'm also pinging @Imeisel and @Megs (who were also facilitators) to join the discussion (and task force if you're interested since it seems all three of you have similar interests)!

The immediate necessary tasks (I may be missing some) would be:

  1. Finding a suitable date range for the edit-a-thon to last
  2. Setting a date for / organizing an in-person event, hopefully the MoRUS will be willing/able
  3. Setting up a subpage for the edit-a-thon like the organized labor one linked above
  4. Reaching out the signpost to introduce our task force and note the edit-a-thon in a WikiProject Report segment)
    • We should have an the edit-a-thon subpage written / a set edit-a-thon date by August 12 for the next signpost edition
  5. Reaching out to other housing/tenant justice/history groups to raise awareness of the edit-a-thon.

I'd appreciate any/every-one's thoughts on this! Best, TheTranarchist ⚧ Ⓐ (talk) 20:05, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like a good idea! I don't quite know what a good date would be personally, but I'd happily participate online. LoomCreek (talk) 20:56, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
