Jessica Halliday[edit]

I've added Jessica to the list. Fascinating woman (and a personal friend of mine, hence I can't do any work on her bio). She wrote her thesis on the Beehive. Most post-2000 theses are online to some extent but not hers. When I asked her, she explained that it's embargoed as a national security risk! Crikey. She did some inspiring work after the earthquakes and got a lot of press for that (by The Press). I hope this is all still online. Schwede66 06:04, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Access to the book: Making space: A history of New Zealand women in architecture for Wellington-based editors[edit]

I needed access to a copy of the book Making space: A history of New Zealand women in architecture to help me in contributing to this project. When I searched on the Wellington City libraries site, I was surprised to find that over 25 people were ahead of me in the queue of reservations !. However, I found that the library also had a separate "reference" copy in off-site storage. I requested this copy be transferred to He Matapihi in Molesworth Street, and I have now accessed it there. This reference copy will be held there for several weeks, so I think it should be possible for other Wellington-based people to also look at it there. Just ask the librarian on duty. That is really great thanks you Marshelec. I have budget to purchase some copies of this book that can be given away as prizes for those who don't want to retain it. Email me to request. Pakoire (talk) 06:52, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata awards wrangling[edit]

Hi, I've just surfaced from chasing some very hairy yaks down a giant Wikidata rabbithole. I created some extra items for the various awards: the Supreme Award (until 2008), its replacement the Architecture Medal (2009–2015; recipients), and the John Scott Award for Public Architecture, which is one of the four named awards that replaced the medal from 2015 onwards, and some of its recipients, some of which I had to create. It's all jolly good fun but I ran out of steam and haven't done the other three yet. Feel free to go around and add award received to any building and people items, with a point in time qualifier with the year. — Jon (talk) 03:59, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You could be in the running for picking up the most yak hair from a Wikidata warren. - Pakoire (talk) 08:09, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Teehee... I've also done a bunch of the NZ Best Design Awards and some recipients too. — Jon (talk) 09:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just created the National Association of Women in Construction in New Zealand (Q118235909) item, which might also be of interest, and gosh if there isn't a whole bunch of award items to create for their annual awards! But it's nearly 1 am... — Jon (talk) 12:49, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nice! See here for other Wikidata work related to this project. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_NZ_Women_In_Architecture_Project

Possible women to add?[edit]

I checked Papers Past for mentions of "lady architect". Here are some possibilities:

Miss Finnerty of Dunedin

unnamed woman, 1913

Alison Sleigh

Alison Sleigh/Shepherd was on my radar already, but Miss Finnerty is intriguing! I haven't found anything else out about her. Not an uncommon name but an uncommon occupation, I wonder if she was related to land surveyor Charles Finnerty? Eta: the unnamed woman is likely Lucy Greenish, although the existing page has her registration beginning 1914 DrThneed (talk) 02:46, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a poke around re Miss Finnerty but drew a blank. Couldn't find a thing. Schwede66 09:26, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
