Other lists[edit]

There may be a need for at least a third list. See

Perhaps both a Category:Lists of percussion instruments and a Category:Lists of musical instruments by Hornbostel-Sachs number would help. Andrewa (talk) 00:13, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The new cats are now there, and will help to sort things out I'm sure. And there is much to sort out. Andrewa (talk) 00:05, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Curiouser and curiouser... see Template talk:HS number, and more to come... there are some grand plans out there, but which are feasible and which not, which current and which already dead in the water, will take some sorting out. Andrewa (talk) 00:04, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In search of forums etc[edit]

http://www.music.ed.ac.uk/euchmi/cimcim/ looks a useful address, the International Committee of Musical Instrument Museums and Collections, part of the International Committee of Museums. On 8 July 2011 they issued a [[Revision of the Hornbostel-Sachs Classification of Musical Instruments by the MIMO Consortium]] http://www.music.ed.ac.uk/euchmi/cimcim/uymhs03.pdf MIMO being the Musical Instrument Museums Online project. Andrewa (talk) 06:10, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attempted to email them at the link provided secretary@cimcim.icom.museum and it bounced <secretary@cimcim.icom.museum>: host cimcim.icom.museum[91.194.60.138] said: 554 5.7.1 <secretary@cimcim.icom.museum>: Relay access denied (in reply to RCPT TO command). Unfortunately this is typical of organology sites. http://www.forumjar.com/forums/Hornbostel-Sachs looked interesting but I'm the first to post there. There's a feedback form at http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/ but they don't reply to error reports (brass cymbals, indeed!) so I'm not hopeful. http://www.miayf.org/contact/ may be another site to try. Failed to post at forumjar, software there completely hopeless, no wonder nobody else uses it. Andrewa (talk) 18:07, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/discussion/Erich_von_Hornbostel looked interesting, but nothing there except a (compliant) WIkipedia mirror. Andrewa (talk) 07:05, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

http://organology.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Index looks interestig, but there are only 5 pages and the last forum post was in 2009. Andrewa (talk) 07:13, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
