Specific drug vs drug class details

[edit]

Drug articles suffer perhaps more than many topics from information duplication - i.e. each member of a drug group being loaded with information on mechanism/indication/adverse effects that are common to the drug group as a whole and better left in the main article. Merely copying long lists of side-effects is unhelpful, and the patchy depth of adding details to one drug compared to another then becomes confusing (is drug A really associated with less side effects than B, or does the article on B just not have the details entered to the same degree of coverage, or are the details in article A to an excessive level that needs pruning back?).

I think some mention needs to be made that for these sections, discusion should not excessively duplicate the more thorough coverage in the article on the drug-group, and particularly in discussing effects & side-effects it is then the distinguishing features (greater receptor selectivity, or difference in adverse effect profile) that needs be mentioned. Merge?

[edit]

Should this be merged with Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology/Style guide? --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 19:36, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might be better to merge it with WP:MEDMOS, which already covers some of this information. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think WP:PHARM deserves its own style guide. It would clutter up WP:MOSMED if we put all this material there. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 20:05, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agree that these need merging as they are the same. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:33, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
