New WikiProject
Congradulations on the new WikiProject. Good luck with the project. I'm involved in both the California and Southern California WikiProjects. If you have any questions about starting and developing a WikiProject, feel free to contact me.
Some suggestions:
- You might move the Open tasks list to a subpage (e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco/Open tasks). Doing that makes the information easier to edit, and you can also give the subpage its own shortcut to make it faster to get to.
- You should probably remove the suggestion of boosterism from the project's Goals.
- I'm in the middle of working on renaming the categories for the Los Angeles area, county, and city (here's my worksheet). It looks like your WikiProject should also consider working on renaming the San Francisco categories to make it clear which categories are for the City and County of San Francisco, and which categories should really be a member of Category:San Francisco Bay Area.
One comment: There is considerable debate over how notable elementary and middle schools are. You might want to concentrate on creating and expanding good high school articles to begin with.

Getting the word out
I've added the project to:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/List of city WikiProjects
- Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/State-level WikiProjects
- Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. cities
You will need to get the project added to:
There are probably a few other places where the WikiProject needs to be added, but I couldn't think of any. It's probably best to look at the "What links here" links for some of the projects listed at the List of city WikiProjects. BlankVerse 14:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Welcome to the club
As the creator of WikiProject Louisville, I welcome San Francisco to the club of cities having dedicated wikiprojects. I lived in the SF area for a time, and thus this new project excites me a lot. If you should need any technical assistance, please don't hesitate to leave me a message. Cheers! Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 14:18, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area
I just found out about Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area. I would suggest that it is probably a good idea to merge this project into the Bay Area project until there are enough editors to support both a Bay Area and a San Francisco-only WikiProject. BlankVerse 14:22, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- IMHO, it works better to cover the whole area, as people move around so much around the Bay Area that you can get a lot of cross-expertise on various area subjects. It also would provide a more complete coverage of interconnected things, such as BART. Besides, many other city wikiprojects cover the metropolitan areas rather than just the exact cities. - I agree also on the need for a WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area, and maybe even merging the two. I was thinking about that as I was adding topics to the "Open Tasks" list – which people and things were mostly relevant to the City of San Francisco vs "Bay Area" topics. The divide was kind of artificial. Of course, making it a "Bay Area" project potentially expands the already-large number of open tasks a great deal. Peter G Werner 17:51, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- My suggestion would be to move everything from here to WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area for now, and create redirects from here to there.
- One thing you can do from the Bay Area project is either create separate open task lists for the different local areas such as Silicon Valley, Marin County, etc (much like the Southern California WikiProject), or create a more formal structure of subprojects like the Military History and Trains WikiProjects. - A separate open tasks list is useful for some topics (schools, landmarks, neighborhoods, etc), but less so for others (art, culture, natural history). It would be best to have an "open tasks" list for the entire WP Bay Area project, plus separate open tasks lists for local areas. Peter G Werner 07:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Poll: Merge WikiProject San Francisco into WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area?
Formal poll here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Peter G Werner (talk • contribs) 07:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC).
- I have been doing some work to improve the classification status of the article on the only Congressman to die in the line of duty, Congressman Leo J. Ryan. He posthumously received the Congressional Gold Medal. He represented California's 11th congressional district. Please let me know what you think, at Talk:Leo Ryan/Comments. Thank you for your time.
