Potential Featured Articles

Bruce Campbell (talk) 18:24, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

I'd been doing some work to some of those season one articles with that in mind, especially "Ice" and "Gender Bender". Would you be open to agreeing (or not) with another editor to bump some of these to A-Class? I've already left a review for that purpose on "all things" so it could be promoted if you or someone else agrees to it. GRAPPLE X 18:31, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
I agree with most of these, although I'm not so sure about "Nothing Important Happened Today", but who know. I feel it needs more stuff. "Per Manum" might be good, as well as "Vienen", but other than A-class, I don't think they could get much more than that. I think we could add "Jose Chung's" and "Clyde Bruckman's" to the list too.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:48, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Well, any article can reach FA; the notion of comprehensiveness doesn't mean "X, Y and Z must be present" so much as "if X, Y and Z are topics of discussion on the subject, then they must be present". So if there's not a lot out there on an episode's themes, for example, then go with what there is and just make sure the actual quality is good. GRAPPLE X 19:56, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
The Philosophy of The X-Files book has a chapter dedicated to "Clyde Bruckman" and another for "Jose Chung's". There is definitely a lot of things for themes in those two. Glimmer721 talk 20:40, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
While I am not a member of this Wikiproject, I have attempted to leave comments at Featured Article/Topic nominations and review a related article here and there. I got bored and kinda went through the whole series, episode article by episode article... And these are the ones that struct out to me as the easiest FAs. As far as the A-Class thing goes, I'd support whatever was needed.
They all have around 20-30 references, have notable production elements, have intricate reception histories, have a certain "hook" that puts them above the average episode; basically the ones that would stand the best chance. They'd all need to be chrome-tinted though and expanded here and there, something I couldn't offer much help into. But the project in question has been cranking these FAs out at an impressive speed. Bruce Campbell (talk) 21:07, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd love to get some more season 6, 7, and 8 episodes to FA. I love those seasons.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:23, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Given the smaller size of some of the mythology GTs, we could pick one (probably volume 3 or 4 if you prefer the tail end of the show) and try to bring it to FT status as a sort of secondary target along with the ongoing GT organisation. Vol 4 might be a good target as it's the smallest (those two-part eps with the same title help to keep the article count low) and "The Truth" is already at FAC; conversely volume 1 might work as "Deep Throat" is there too and eps like "Pilot" make good candidates. I'm happy to work on something together; if we pick a topic and grab an article each to bring up another level. GRAPPLE X 19:38, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
That's a good idea. Although I like Vol. 3 the most, I think Vol. 1 would be the best one to go with. I think, with a tad bit of work, "Pilot" could become a FA rather easily, and you're closing in on "Deep Throat". I think there's probably enough info on it to warrant a FA, also.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Vol 1 would require 8 FAs to be a feature topic; vol 3 needs 9. "Deep Throat" should be there soon (I believe it's just being held up waiting for User:Matthewedwards to respond, might ping him tonight about it) so that'd be 7 more—"Pilot" definitely, "Little Green Men", "Duane Barry", "Ascension", "EBE" probably, any other ideas? GRAPPLE X 20:20, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
"The Erlenmeyer Flask", maybe? That was GA before you guys came, so you probably have stuff to add. Also maybe "Colony"/"End Game" or "Paper Clip"? They seem like likely candidates as they are pretty important. Glimmer721 talk 00:08, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Speaking of coming along later; how far have you seen up to now? GRAPPLE X 00:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I watched "Christmas Carol" today. Glimmer721 talk 00:38, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

I'd be willing to split some of the stuff up. I could work on season 6 and 7 (I plan on working on "The Unnatural" and "Field Trip", as well as "all things" and "X-Cops", which I think have the most potential... maybe "Hollywood AD"... not so sure about that one).--Gen. Quon (Talk) 20:26, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm nearing in on finalizing "The Unnatural", "Field Trip", "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati", and "Deadalive" for pre-FA. How do they look so far?--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:15, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
I've been meaning to get to "The Truth"'s FAC, should manage it tonight; but I'll offer A-Class reviews on more article if you want those as well. Which would you say are your next concerns? GRAPPLE X 19:22, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd say those four. Also "all things". I'm going to work on those five and get them all ready. I think "Unnatural", "Field Trip", and "Sixth Extinction II" are ready for A-class. "Deadalive" needs more critical stuff.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:44, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd review them if I had seen them...but they look good. Glimmer721 talk 22:45, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
For the record, I call dibs on Humbug (The X-Files). Bruce Campbell (talk) 02:12, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Updated with subsequent FA and A assessments GRAPPLE X 05:53, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

After working on the stub Teliko, and getting the once-diminutive Oubliette to FAC, I've noticed that with the absurd amount of attention the series has received, you could basically promote any article at all to FA with enough research. I think my list is really outdated in retrospect tbh. Someone really crazy could even get Space or Teso Dos Bichos there. Bruce Campbell (talk) 03:37, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Space is on my list, right after Tooms, which is right after Ice. I wanna get season one to FT so I'll be working exclusively with that for a bit. But yeah, the attention is crazy. Especially seasons one to maybe four, which are covered by several dedicated books and websites. GRAPPLE X 03:40, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
I didn't really think there was any type of endgame, I was just working with my favorite episodes. I will definitely work on the underrated "Darkness Falls" (which I prefer more than "Ice" tbh). I made this in the meantime, still probably lacking. lol Bruce Campbell (talk) 03:55, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
To me, the endgame is just to keep going til we burn out or everything's as high as it's going to go. I don't know if you've seen it but User:Grapple X/GT prep has some long-term planning in it, some of it's a bit more far-fetched than the rest I guess. GRAPPLE X 03:57, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Either we turn into those weird road people and everyone else just stops commenting at the FACs (which is already kinda happening) or the copy-editors get sick about reading about aliens. Either way everyone involved is getting alot of stars while lasts. lol Bruce Campbell (talk) 04:09, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
When they get fed up with aliens, hit them with bible stories. GRAPPLE X 04:10, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

FYI: Last night I was looking for some classic Doctor Who sources and I came across this, which covers both X-Files and Twin Peaks. The availability of pages usually depends on how much you view at a time (last night I scrolled through at it cut me off after a page of Twin Peaks), but you might be able to snag some info. It's mainly about the reception/impact of the series, which may help with the main series article and/or themes. Glimmer721 talk 17:14, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

You could really get lost within Google Books. Yeah, Cult Telefantasy Series is really helpful, I used it on "Home." Bruce Campbell (talk) 18:24, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Concerning "Home" - I noticed that the A.V. Club review discussed how it was an example of how America had many different, strange, small towns before it began to become more homogenized with technology and also 9/11 paranoia (adding locks on doors, etc). I didn't know quite where to fit that in, but I noticed it was a theme that was brought up a lot on those reviews, with "Home" often cited as an example. Glimmer721 talk 22:17, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
I think it would best fit in the theme section, though it already goes over the "new vs old" stuff. I'm attempting to incorporate every commentary I can, but there's a damn lot for this episode so it's a bit tricky. If I included every thematic mention, it would get out of hand. Some of VanDerWerff's views are expressed in the critical section and were reinforced by others. Feel free to add anything you think is noteworthy though, the article is really a group effort. Bruce Campbell (talk) 00:47, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

X-Files main page

I've started working on this, and I believe I've fixed the whole "Broadcasting and Release" section. Any thoughts?--Gen. Quon (Talk) 18:45, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Looks good, although wasn't the season 4 premiere on a Friday? (Though the finale wasn't.) I'm not sure how that would be worked into the table though. Maybe "Friday/Sunday" with a note saying that it switched with "Unruhe"? Glimmer721 talk 22:33, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Oh, good catch. I just added a different field for season four and explained it in the prose.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 01:36, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

FAN Articles that need votes/comments!

Both "The Unnatural" and "Home" and could use a vote or a comment! Thanks! :)--Gen. Quon (Talk) 14:56, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion for the Infobox

I noticed on the X-Files featured article The Post-Modern Prometheus that its infobox doesn't include a Commentary since one was done by Episode Director/Writer Chris Carter. On Today's featured article which is a Simpsons Episode Lisa the Skeptic it has an infobox that includes a part on Commentary. Just something that's bugging me and if it would allow me I would be willing to have Commentaries to this and a few other X-File episodes shown. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vctrbarbieri (talkcontribs) 20:14, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it looks like The Simpsons uses a unique episodic infobox. Currently, one does not exist for The X-Files, and as such, we use the default template. Sadly, this default ones does not let us add 'commentary' as a field. I'd love to get an X-Files box made (and we could have a "Monster-of-the-Week" yes/no field added) but I don't know how to do this.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 00:22, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

The X-Files sources and analogues - Justify its existence

The recently created article The X-Files sources and analogues is sorely in need of reliable, secondary sources for verification, and to establish notability, or else the content might best be summarized and merged with The X-Files. If the topic is notable, and reliable sources exist, please add them to avoid the appearance of a fan's personal opinion. Cheers. --Animalparty-- (talk) 00:29, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Seems superfluous to me, could easily be AFDed. GRAPPLE X 02:25, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

So this exists

I thought this might be a neat addition to the project but I can't see it fitting on the main project page too well, so maybe it can just sit here. It's a breakdown, either by line graph or pie chart, of our progress in article classification. GRAPPLE X 14:39, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

  • 1.8% List-Class
  • 5.2% Stub-Class
  • 12.5% Start-Class
  • 5% C-Class
  • 1.8% B-Class
  • 69.2% GA-Class
  • 4.4% FA-Class
That's a really impressive graph. It shows how much work has been done!--Gen. Quon (Talk) 00:28, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
For some reason, that pie-chart isn't working. Here's one I made.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 22:13, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Chart for X-Files Project

Does Season 9 have a SEASON or SERIES finale?

With new episodes now on TV, the current Wikipedia article on The X-Files (season 9) seems to be correct in calling that season's final two episodes the "season finale" ... or is it?

What is the preferred style when talking about this franchise? Everybody knows Chris Carter's 2016 mini-series is a sequel taking place after a passage of many years, but is this revival considered a brand new series altogether (albeit one starting with a "Season 10")? If so, then the article on Season 9 should call that season's final two episodes the SERIES finale.

Pruning

There are a few articles in the project here which I think could probably be deleted as cruft or lacking sufficient notability for their own article; I think we've been holding onto them from a time when people were freely creating things before WP:GNG really gained traction. If no one has any particular opposition to any of these, I'll probably start taking them to WP:AFD over the next week or so; most are simply articles consisting of little more than plot information and are largely redundant to more useful articles like those on larger characters or individual episodes. I'm looking at the following:

Now, some of these could probably just be redirected to better articles (Jimmy Bond to The Lone Gunmen, sources and analogues to The X-Files#Conception, Men in Black to Syndicate (The X-Files), etc), but either way I think we could stand to get rid of them. Thoughts? GRAPPLE X 15:06, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

List of guest appearances on The X-Files can definitely go, it's nothing more than a list with just primary references. List of minor The X-Files characters can be redirected to List of The X-Files characters and a possible merge of some of the notable characters. List of Monster-of-the-Week characters in The X-Files is all plot/fancruft and any useful information about those characters would be in the episode articles. Men in Black (The X-Files) can be redirected to Syndicate (The X-Files) as most of that information is redundant of the list of characters article. The X-Files sources and analogues needs to go, it doesn't have anything not already featured in other related articles (main article, season/episode articles). X-files unit is all plot/fancruft and is redundant of plot synopsis' from episode articles. And Jimmy Bond can be redirected/merged to The Lone Gunmen. I support all redirecting/merging of those articles. Drovethrughosts (talk) 20:22, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
