Deleted articles

[edit]

Hello fellow backlog-destroyers! Question for you: I've come across many {{wikify}}-tagged articles that actually require deletion, for whatever reason. I've prod'd a few, AfD'd a few, tagged a few as speedy-delete. My question is, do these "count"? I would think they do because after the completed action the {{wikify}} tag goes away (unless an AfD'd article is kept). Please let me know your thoughts on this. --Fang Aili talk 21:45, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I (or someone else) haven't responded sooner. I saw this when you first asked, and for some reason I kept thinking I had already answered it. :) Anyway, we have generally frowned upon taking credit for any article that you do nothing to other then nominate for deletion. If you do wikify it first though, and then it ends up being deleted, I don't really see a problem. I remember a couple of articles I wikified that were later deleted. That said, I would imagine some of it is rather discretionary. If you come across a G12 that someone has tagged as needing wikification, I'd think its better to just tag and move on. I can see some logic to giving credit for doing this, on grounds that it is still clearing the backlog, which means that in future articles that are tagged for wikifying are likely to be sorted sooner. The articles tagged for wikifying are often bad articles in numerous respects (lack of sources, no notability etc) and I think part of the drive should be about "sorting out the articles generally" Pi (Talk to me! ) 18:40, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the fact that you are still lowering the backlog strikes me as the best reason why you would count those articles. However, some of the articles so tagged were done by mistake or even a bot, so its sometimes quicker to just do what needs to be done to the article and move on. Sorry I forgot to reply to your previous response, Nolelover. I see points in favor of both sides (counting and not counting), but maybe it's cleaner to just to say that you have to actually wikify in order to get credit. I removed the non-wikified articles from my completed list (in case anyone is wondering). We could keep talking about this if we want to change the parameters before next month, but I'm ok with keeping it to wikifying=credit. Cheers, all. --Fang Aili talk 20:19, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If past rulings mean anything, Nolelover is correct. However, changing it for the next drive is certainly possible. Any cons of such a switch? I suppose we could possibly get overrun by New Page Patrollers. Guoguo12--Talk--  01:16, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
