Olympians

[edit]

Hi. For info, I've updated the count by sport for the missing Olympians on the talkpage of the list. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:35, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

A problem with the redlink collection of this WikiProject is its derivation on other-language Wikipedias. These often have quite different inclusion criteria than the English one, meaning for instance that the athletics list is cluttered with Norwegian athletes who competed on a domestic/national level only. I hope everybody is aware of this and doesn't start mass translating. Geschichte (talk) 18:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Just to note that when I added the edithon banner, it gives an error. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:37, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Defined scope

[edit]

Just to be clear, are women's competitions and women's teams also included? I'm not particularly good at biographies, but have been on a roll with improving tournament articles (specifically today's TFA, 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup). SounderBruce 06:02, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why not @SounderBruce:. As long as it's women in sports :D --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:29, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to ask rhe same question. I'd rather create some world pool championship articles for the women, which should also show more redlinks for women to be created. Any ideas if there is anywhere we would add these articles to? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:58, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
hi, you can just add them alongside the rest of the articles. it says in the welcome bit: "We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about sportswomen, including their achievements, writings, organizations, and awards." --Habst (talk) 14:57, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski: Ping per abocve. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:18, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Emma Parker (snooker player)

[edit]

Hi, I've just created this article. Parker is on the list as "Emma Parker" Q61782542 but as there's another Emma Parker who already has a page, so I added (snooker player) in the new article title. Is there anything I need to do to avoid confusion? Thanks! BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:26, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, it should be fine. I've just added a hatnote to the existing article to show that there is another subject with the same name. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:41, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did a quick copyedit on the article - good work. Should be more women snooker bios, especially with the world championship being a qualifier for the champion of champions... Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:00, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks both! @Lee Vilenski: Could you please have a look at the article I've just published for Mandy Fisher if you have a chance? BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 14:06, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, absolutely. I'll take a look now. I'm super happy there is someone creating cue sport articles. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:40, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'd actually think this article has a good chance at WP:DYK. I'd be quite happy to co-nominate the article with you. Let me know. The thing about Barry Hearn seems suitably hooky to me. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:03, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski: Thanks for the help. I'm not sure what a DYK nomination involves, but happy with that. Not sure if you saw the original source, but that used the phrase "forced her to..." - I changed it slightly!
@Lee Vilenski: It would be great if you could review Vera Selby and Nutcharut Wongharuthai too.

Sure BennyOnTheLoose, no problem. Just as an FYI, if you ping someone, without signing the post, the ping doesn't go through. If you want, you can just post these to my talk page, and I'll work my way through. I'll put through a DYK for that article, as I feel it's perfect for one. Thanks for doing all these, it's been too long Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:48, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DYK scope Comment

[edit]

Hi! I have this DYK in the queue (should be tomorrow) Template:Did you know nominations/2019 Austria Open. It's based on Diana Khodjaeva's play. Is this in the project scope? It's not a women's only event, but the bio in question was created for this. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic medallists

[edit]

I've noticed that there are currently three redlinks left for women who've won Olympic medals (thanks to @Lugnuts: for making Barbara Wilk-Ślizowska). They are at List of Olympic medalists in volleyball - Larisa Pavlova, Galina Lebedeva, Svetlana Vasilevskaya. After these three, ALL women who've won an Olympic medal will have articles as of 2019 :) Anyone want to finish them up? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:18, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I worked on adding all the missing volleyball Olympians earlier this year, so I had to double-check why these three are missing, and it appears to be for the same reason. Larisa Pavlova was part of the Soviet squad in 1980, but is not listed by Sports Reference. Galina Lebedeva and Svetlana Vassilevskaya represented the Unified Team in 1992, but again are not listed on Sports Reference. So I assume they were part of the squads that went to the Olympics, but didn't actually play in any matches. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:27, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lugnuts: At the Olympic.org website, Pavlova, Lebedeva are acknowledged as medallists. But you're right with Lebedeva and Vassilevskaya did not play in 1992 (can't vouch if source is relilable). Haven't found Vassilevskaya in Olympic.org which is annoying. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:02, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for investigating further. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:07, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
