Advance Material Requests?

[edit]

I think last time we did this, we were able to send in requests for materials and they were ready to use for the event. Can we do this again? Kosboot? Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 13:12, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Make a list of things and I'll see what I can do. I already saw that we have a small clipping file on Boam. Note that if the item you want is offsite, you can request it yourself if you use the interface: http://catalog.nypl.org. -- kosboot (talk) 15:56, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Most of what I want is at the Performing Arts library, but I'll use the interface. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 17:00, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another question for Kosboot: if a material is "in-library use only" at another location, is it possible to request it for in-library use the day of the event? Specifically, I was looking at books on African-americans in film, and surprisingly they are located at the Schomburg General Research location, but are "in-library use only". Can they be transfered to the performing arts library? Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 14:39, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Astrocog - if an item is currently in a different center you can request it to be sent to NYPL-LPA. If it's currently at the Schomburg Center, make the request at: scgenref@nypl.org

If an item is offsite, you can not only request it to be delivered to NYPL-LPA, but you can also get 50 pages scanned for free and emailed to you by way of the offsite request form (assuming the item is in good condition). -- kosboot (talk) 18:01, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Event status after hurricane Sandy?

[edit]

With subways closed and other train service slow, not to mention some reduced hours for the NYPL, has the status of this event changed at all? Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 23:47, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - postponed - stay tuned for rescheduling. -- kosboot (talk) 16:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is now rescheduled for December 1 - which is also World AIDS Day. I do not want to disrupt anyone's event branding, but could this also be the Wikipedia World AIDS Day editathon? Blue Rasberry (talk) 02:39, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Check out the category: HIV/AIDS in film -- lots of material. -- kosboot (talk) 04:58, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, great! That is exactly what I am doing. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:26, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And beyond that, in the library catalog, do a subject search under the heading: AIDS (Disease) in motion pictures. I'm sure there'll be a clipping file with a similar heading. -- kosboot (talk) 18:04, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
