There are only 249 Wikipedia editions, not 250. [1] – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 09:21, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That site's dated to November 2006. I'm going with the numbers from m:List of Wikipedias. Ral315 (talk) 16:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Number of requests[edit]

"According to Wikipedia developers, the site is now generating approximately 30,000 requests per second (about 2.5 thousand million requests)."

I assume it is per day? -- lucasbfr talk 11:32, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

30,000 × 86,400 ≈ 2,500,000,000. Conscious 13:54, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah; there should have been a "per day" there. Ral315 (talk) 16:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stupid question[edit]

Since it's a Wikiquote, consisting by design entirely of stuff that other people have said, how did they become significantly composed of copyright violations (or significantly more than enWikiQ)? Were people quoting too much, or dumping entire scripts, or something? --Sam Blanning(talk) 13:21, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This briefing has more details. Essentially someone took a significant number of quotes from a source. Ral315 (talk) 16:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

alexa rank[edit]

"Wikipedia's rank on Alexa's traffic analyzer rose from about 24 in 2005 to as high as 12th in 2006."

It actually went as high as 10th once in Nov and 2 or 3 times in Dec. Look for yourself: [2]. JoeSmack Talk 21:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going mainly by 3-month ranks, not daily ranks, for that number. They're more stable. Ral315 (talk) 02:11, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you turn down the smoothing on the 3 month it is still pretty clear to 10th. JoeSmack Talk 14:24, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I mean Alexa's three month ranks, which do not appear in any graphs. They're an average over what's happened in the last three months. If you look at October, November and December, the overall average for the three months would be right around 12th- for every jump to 11th or 10th we made, we dropped down to 13th, 14th or even 15th.
