Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/2009
Picture request
[edit]Though, strictly speaking, it's not in Manhattan, I'd appreciate it if someone heads to Yonkers to Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site. They have a portrait of Rutherford Hayes painted by Thomas Eakins. I would greatly appreciate it if someone in the area were to get a photograph of the painting, upload it, and add it to List of works by Thomas Eakins as #473. - I will add it to the list. We need to start compiling anyway.Mitch32(Want help? See here!) 17:34, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I have a few last minute additions to the list. I've posted here. I want to make sure someone sees it. Raul654 (talk) 02:59, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but like I told you before we really can't do stuff in museums for this event. Coordinating with museums adds a whole other level of complexity (which we've done for other events), and which I'm afraid will not be possible here.--Pharos (talk) 14:46, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Ideas for the list
[edit]I am building the list of locations and would like imput. I am including all 5 boroughs, and some outer extremities of NYC, so list what you feel is best.Mitch32(Want help? See here!) 22:53, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Landmarks of Hoboken, New Jersey is mostly unillustrated, and all of it is just a short subway ride away from Midtown or Greenwich Village.
Planning and Flickr test-run
[edit]It looks likely at this point that the event will be held in early October, and so I guess we should aim at our Flickr test-run for September.--Pharos (talk) 01:36, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- October 11, please! - I can't make it on the 4th unless something is scheduled.Mitch32(Want help? See here!) 01:41, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Target statues
[edit]- Samuel J. Tilden statue at the end of W 112th Street above Riverside Drive. Sun is usually good in the late afternoon. Forgot to go down and snap it yesterday afternoon when we were in the neighborhood. Jim.henderson (talk) 15:35, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Joan of Arc at end of W 93d St. Ditto. Jim.henderson (talk) 15:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Are they past the 1923 threshold? Just wondering of course. –blurpeace (talk) 20:02, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Drat; Tilden is 1926. Joan is fair game, being 1913.
Targets
[edit]- New York Connecting Railroad has two pictures but they're both lousy (and both mine). Better shots might be found in Woodside and Middle Village. Jim.henderson (talk) 17:56, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Stella D'oro on Broadway, in the West Bronx. Drat; I passed it four hours ago and forgot because I was concerned about my friend's leg cramp and looking for the way to Harlem with the fewest hills. Jim.henderson (talk) 03:24, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Open House NY Weekend
[edit]Is it intentional that WTM is the same weekend as Open House NY? dm (talk) 18:18, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- Kind of. It was that way entirely by accident last year, and it worked out pretty well.--Pharos (talk) 02:32, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Last moment picture request
[edit]Could we get a better photograph of the Daily News building? Possibly one of the office space as well? Ottre 05:35, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
It's today!
[edit]I look forward to seeing everyone today, please bring your laptops and/or cardreaders so you can help with the uploading.--Pharos (talk) 13:08, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the Event
[edit]Greetings, folks. Thanks so much for organizing and executing this event. Had a great time and looking forward to next year. Out of curiosity, are the results going to be posted online? If I can help out with anything, please let me know. --Gdickinson (talk) 16:03, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
