Wolfgang Rohrbach (born June 11, 1947) is an Austrian university professor, expert in insurance and health economics, triple doctor of science, honorary president of the Olympic Leadership Academy, and president of Europa Nostra Austria.[1][2][3]
Education and Career[edit]
At the University of Vienna, in 1972, he earned a doctorate in Economics and Sociology, as well as Slavic Philology (with main languages Russian and Serbo-Croatian), obtaining a doctorate in philology. From 1973, he worked in the insurance industry in various roles (statistician, economic analyst, publicist, press spokesperson, product manager). From 1984 to 1989, he was a lecturer at the University of Vienna and from 1986 to 1989 at the Vienna University of Economics, and from 1996 at the Medical Faculty and the University of Vienna and Salzburg (health economics, health insurance).[2] He obtained his habilitation in 2003 at the Economic Faculty of the University of West Hungary with the habilitation thesis "The Impact of Demographic Development on Health and Pension Insurance Systems."[2] Since 2006, he has been a lecturer at a professional faculty in Belgrade. Today, Rohrbach also works as a scientific consultant for CENTRA-CONSULT Wirtschaftstreuhand und Steuerberatungs GmbH, primarily for UNIQA Serbia. Additionally, Rohrbach is an appraiser (insurance expert for Southeast Europe) for the German Technical Cooperation Society (GTZ).[4]
From 1966 to 1967, after completing Bundesrealgymnasium high school in Vienna, Rohrbach served in the Austrian Armed Forces. After that, he studied economic and social history as well as Slavic philology at the University of Vienna from 1967 to 1972. He received the professional title "professor" in 1997 from the President of Austria. Since 1973, he has been involved in training professionals for various expert and leadership positions in the insurance industry, and from 1980 to 1999 he was head of the public relations department at the insurance company "Austria-Collegialität," before becoming the director of one of UNIQA's branches in Serbia.[1][3]
Teaching Activities[edit]
1984–1989: Lecturer in economic and social history at the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics.[1] Since 1989: Guest lectures at universities and academies in Eastern and Southeastern Europe (Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia)[1] 1996–2005: Guest lecturer for health, accident, and long-term insurance at the Medical Faculty in Vienna and Salzburg[1] 2007–2009: Visiting professor for "Insurance Management" at the Faculty of Business and Management in Belgrade[1] 2009–2013: Regular professor for "Economics and Finance" at MBS - Modern Business School[5] Since 2014: Visiting professor at St. Elizabeth University for Health and Social Sciences, Bratislava[1]
Academic and professional titles[edit]
Wolfgang Rohrbach has received honorary doctorates and titles, including an honorary doctorate from the European University in Brčko and the title of honorary professor from Donau Universität and the University for Continuing Education Krems.[2]
Affiliations and Awards[edit]
Since 2014, he has been a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, and since 2017 a member of the Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and Artists in Belgrade.[2][6] Rohrbach has also received the European Science and Culture Prize in 2009 and the Medal of Honor of the European Medical Association in 2015.[2]

Personal life[edit]
Wolfgang Rohrbach is married to Gordana Rohrbach and has two children, Alexander and Phillip.[3]
