Barristers from Northern Ireland automatically British barristers?[edit]

Are Category:Barristers from Northern Ireland always also Category:British barristers as implied by this category structure?

No. Like anyone else in Norrn Iron, they may identify as Irish or British or Northern Irish, or some combination above. The right to such identities is explicitly enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement.

That is one of the reasons why Norrn Iron categories are parented under both Ireland and the UK. This is described in the guideline WP:IRE-CATS, as agreed at an RFC in 2014.

@Obiwankenobi: By (silently)reverting my edit and restoring a Category:British barristers as a parent category you have created a system where Barristers from Northern Ireland are all considered British Barristers, but where some women in this category, such as Mary McAleese, cannot be added to British women lawyers, at least not according to User:Snappy XOttawahitech (talk) 14:03, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ottawa, did you read my reply above? I stated, clearly, that I re-added British, and I stated the reason why. This is not a problem unique to northern Irish barristers, but the Ireland project has decided this is the standard - NI is in British + Irish.
