Category[edit]

I don't understand the necessity for this category. Badagnani 16:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This category makes it possible to browse through all English language film directors. It is not fully populated yet, but it will combine English, American, Australian and British film directors in one category, as well as those directors from other countries that directed Englishl-language films (e.g. Roman Polanski). Making category distinctions about directors by the language they worked in seems to make more sense to me than making them by their nationality, especially when film is so international in nature. - Samuel Wantman 02:22, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is a terrible example of category clutter. It is not helpful to the reader to see this category on the likes of Category:American film directors. It would be much better if all directors from mainly English speaking countries were excluded, but as that would be so much work I am minded to nominate this category for deletion. This would work much better as a category for directors of English language films from countries that where English is not the majority language, in line with the similar categories for poets, newspapers etc. CalJW 17:23, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd like a category like that, please go and create it. I created this one to serve as an index of all english language film directors. It makes more sense to divide up film directors by language than by nationality. Film is international. So are film directors. If there are any categories that are cluttering up the articles about film directors it is the nationality subdivisions, not the language subdivisions. -- Samuel Wantman 01:01, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have restored catdiffuse to this category. It is nothing but category clutter, not least because there are so many American, English etc directors, that even the national categories are not of much use. Mowsbury 01:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is absurd to call my work on this category contrary to consensus. I did the large majority of work establishing this category. It contains English-language film directors from most of the countries mentioned. I have not finished adding directors. I have a few hundred more to go. But you cannot change the definition of a category by rewording the description. The rewording should reflect what the category contains and not what you want it to contain. Since I am the person doing the work on this category, you have two options. Convince me I am wrong or create the category you want and nominate this one for deletion. You won't get me to stop creating the category by simply changing the description. -- SamuelWantman 01:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that you did most of the work, and that no-one is supporting you, shows that there is no consensus to accept what you are doing. Æthelwold 20:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But that is not an argument that shows that what I am doing is wrong, nor that this category is not useful. Anyone has the option to nominate this category at CfD. -- SamuelWantman 10:48, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
