The category is virtually meaningless - anyone born in a parish in England is by law an Anglican, unless and until they join another denomination. DuncanHill 15:33, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'People born in a Parish in England are automatically Anglicans' is nonsense. That would make every person born in England an Anglican. It is the case that anyone living in a parish in England is entitled, for example, to be married in the local Parish Church. But of course many people are born in England to parents of no religion, of other Christian denominations, and of other faiths. You can hardly be an Anglican if your parents are, say, Muslims or Methodists. I think this could be a useful category for people for whom their Anglicanism is important in some way. I noticed that under Lutherans rocket scientist Wernher von Braun is listed, presumbably because the article mentions that he got a telescope for his confirmation! But we have no indication whether his Lutheranism was at all important later in his life. Did we include Adolph Hitler under Catholics because he was bapitsed a Catholic? Another thought about this- perhaps it would be a useful article if it listed those Anglicans for whom their religion was important in their life- eg Thomas Hardy who lost his faith,I believe. Either we delete this category or we redefine the criteria for inclusion. I favour the latter and I suggest something along the lines of people who either identified themselves as being Anglicans or others specifically identified them as being Anglicans. Greenshed 13:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More agreement. I found this category because Philip Larkin links here. By this definition he's an Anglican, but he spent his life espousing agnostic/atheist views. Daft almost-instinct 10:13, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
