As each has added the Category:Polish people by region, could Olessi and Space Cadet please explain how it applies to

  • People from Greifswald
  • People from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • People from the Province of Pomerania
  • People from Stralsund

and why they did not add the corresponding German category, too? -- Matthead  Discuß   10:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Which category would you recommend adding? Category:German people? Olessi (talk) 22:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would add (as subcategory) Category:People from Kolberg, for example, and then categorize the "people from Kolberg" and "people from Klobrzeg" categories in proper German or Polish context, without putting this umbrella category here into any national one. I'm not surprised that one of the editors mentioned above claimed that all Pomeranians were Polish, but I'm annoyed that supposedly neutral editors miss the neutral POV by far occaisonally. -- Matthead  Discuß   06:51, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You had originally asked why the corresponding German category was not added; there is no corresponding Category:German people by region. There is Category:German people by state, but Pomerania (the region) was not a state — for that we have the subdivisions like Duchy of Pomerania, Province of Pomerania, etc. I have nothing against you including Category:German people.
Regarding the city categories, the format when I began adding categories was "People from Foo", with Foo being the corresponding article, i.e. People from Szczecin (Szczecin), People from Königsberg (Königsberg) etc. We could easily categorize people in Category:People from Stettin and making Category:People from former German cities (or formerly German), a subcategory of Category:People by city in Germany. Be bold. Olessi (talk) 14:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

False, untrue Lists of People and Categories at Wikipedia[edit]

Category:People from Szczecin also contains a large number of people, who were not born in Szczecin (name so since 1945) and did not live in Szczecin and were not from a city in Poland, were not Polish people by region, as it is incorrectly claimed at Wikipedia. An Observer 9 July 2008

The Category Polish People by Region was added again, falsely claiming a list of people to have been Polish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.136.248.207 (talk) 21:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
