Background[edit]
History[edit]
On January 18, 2022, Microsoft announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, the largest acquisition in the company's history, and in the video game and technology industries as a whole. Upon completion, ABK and its subsidiaries would become part of Microsoft Gaming, a new division that would house all of Microsoft's video game activities, including the Xbox brand. The acquisition would close on October 13, 2023, making ABK a sibling unit to Microsoft Gaming's other development and publishing units Xbox Game Studios and ZeniMax Media (which includes Bethesda Softworks among others).
