Draft:New York Independent News

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New York Independent News was a newspaper in New York City established by Fritz Pollard that ran from 1935-1942 when the war and a rivalry forced it to close.[1][2] Established in 1935, it was the city's first Black tabloid and Black-owned newspaper.[3][2]

The paper's offices were on 125th Street and at its peak, the paper had a weekly circulation of approximately thirty-five thousand, ranking it among the top most read Black newspapers in the country.[1]
