Vikram Mansharamani (born January 5, 1974, Queens, NY) is an American businessman, author, keynote speaker, and global trend watcher.

Mansharamani, a member of the faculty at Yale University from 2009 to 2017 and Harvard University between 2017 and 2022, is the author of three books. He regularly advises several Fortune 500 CEOs and their boards on the global business and regulatory environment. He is the founder of Kelan Advisors, an advisory firm based in Massachusetts. Mansharamani was a Republican candidate for the 2022 United States Senate elections for New Hampshire.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Mansharamani was born on January 5, 1974, in Queens, New York. He grew up in rural New Jersey. He attended Blair Academy on a scholarship provided by John C. Bogle and earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1996.

He spent his summers interning at the American Enterprise Institute, a right of center think tank based in Washington, D.C., and the Embassy of the United States, Beijing.

In 2004, Mansharamani completed his master’s in political science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in Security studies. He earned a master's degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2005 and a PhD in technological innovation and entrepreneurship in 2007.[2]

Career[edit]

After obtaining a bachelor's degree in 1996, Mansharamani joined Booz Allen Hamilton as a Consultant in their Houston office. He then joined the Mergers & Acquisitions division at Merrill Lynch, working as a financial analyst.

In 1999, Mansharamani joined Great Hill Partners, a private equity investment firm based in Boston, Massachusetts. He helped lead investments in the education and business services sectors and represented the firm on the board of ManagedOps.com, Inc., a company in New Hampshire, and Interrelate, Inc., a company based in Minnesota.

In 2005, while still pursuing his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he began working for Oechsle International Advisors and a spin-off from the firm called SDK Capital. He was a managing director at the firm.[3]

Between 2007 and 2008, Mansharamani served as a board member at the U.S. Pakistan Business Council in Washington, D.C.[3] [4]

In 2008, Mansharamani was founding chairman of The Torit Montessori School in Boston. He resigned from the post in 2014. [2]

In 2013, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Africa Opportunity Fund, a closed-end fund listed on the London Stock Exchange with a pan-African investment mandate, and served on the board until 2018. [3]

Between 2009 and 2017, he was on the faculty of Yale University, where he taught classes on financial bubbles, economic inequality, and business ethics.[5]

Vikram also served as a lecturer at Harvard University between 2017 and 2022, teaching a course titled “Humanity & Its Challenges” within the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.[6]

In 2021, Mansharamani was elected to the Board of Werner Enterprises (Nasdaq: WERN), one of America’s largest trucking companies. In 2023, Mansharmani was elected to the board of Phantom Space Corporation, an American space transportation and rocket manufacturing based in Tucson, Arizona.[7]

Mansharamani has also been active participant in local non-profit and civic organizations. He serves as a Trustee of the Trust Fund for the Town of Lincoln, New Hampshire and is also on the boards of the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Service at the University of New Hampshire School of Law, the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, and the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire.[8] [9]

He was appointed by Chris Sununu to the Governor’s Commission on crypto currencies and digital assets as well as the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority. [10]

U.S Senate Election[edit]

Mansharamani was the Republican Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in the Republican Primary during the 2022 United States Senate elections. [1]

Awards and honors[edit]

Mansharamani is the recipient of several teaching awards and was recognized by LinkedIn as the professional network’s #1 Top Voice for Money, Finance, and Economics in both 2015 and 2016.  

In 2017, Worth (magazine) profiled him as one of the 100 most powerful people in global finance in their annual Power 100 issue.[11]
