Copyright violations[edit]

I have reverted a series of 5 edits by one editor, MissionX sbks because there were several obvious breaches of copyright. Whole sentences had been lifted from three different sources I identified.

  • "During TORS procedures, your surgeon controls robotic instruments that have been inserted through your mouth. In TORS no incisions are needed, unlike traditional open surgery which requires long incisions through the throat and jaw, which often leave patients with visible scars, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and a lengthy recovery."
From this cached version of a page - this was what made me suspect that text had been copied, with its references to "your surgeon".
  • "TORS represents a good tool for staging and treating neoplasm of the base of the tongue. The transoral removal is safe and can radically remove limited oropharyngeal tumours of the tongue base with good functional outcomes."
From this abstract
  • "Given the important role the oropharynx plays in speech and swallowing, nonsurgical therapy with organ-preserving chemoradiation has gained a role in the treatment of tonsil carcinoma in attempts to avoid the morbidity of surgery. However, organ-preserving chemoradiation is not without its own morbidity. Transoral surgical techniques have become more widespread in the treatment of tonsillar carcinoma and may decrease the morbidity associated with surgical therapy."

I now see that the words "During TORS procedures, your surgeon controls robotic instruments that have been inserted through your mouth. In TORS no incisions are needed, unlike traditional open surgery which requires long incisions through the throat and jaw, which often leave patients with visible scars, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and a lengthy recovery." were added for the first time by the same editor in this series of edits. I will remove them now, but wonder how much else of this article is stolen from other people's writing. PamD 22:40, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Warning to reviewers[edit]

There is a class of students that have created drafts and many are full of COPYVIO, unsourced content, embedded links, etc.

The whole class is here: Wikipedia:Education_program/B_K_Shah_Medical_Institute#Year_of_2016. Please work these over CAREFULLY before you pass them into mainspace.

See discussion at Wikipedia talk:Education program/B K Shah Medical Institute and also at Wikipedia:Education_noticeboard/Incidents#Wikipedia:Education_program.2FB_K_Shah_Medical_Institute Jytdog (talk) 03:47, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
