  • 1949 - The Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association creats a "Policy on Kisha Clubs", stating that they are "an organization for the purpose of socialization, and are not to intervene in matters related to reporting"
  • 1999 - Yoshifumi Kubota murders Shiori Ino in front of a train station. This incident later revealed significant dereliction of duties on the part of Saitama Prefectural Police, and was the impetus for a stalking law in Japan.
  • 2011 - Tsuyoshi Kikukawa resigns as the President and Chairman of Olympus Corporation due to investigations regarding the optical equipment company's recent acquisitions
