Header colors[edit]

Boise State Blue?  :) I'm willing to lend a hand here, if you like. I'd been contemplating starting this myself for some time. — Zaui (talk) 20:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-- LOL! Good guess. I chose BSU Blue for right now, but I think it might need to change to an earthy tone if more people start to come plus I don't particularly like how those exact colors match. This is about one of the first things I've ever touched here on Wikipedia and I'm having a pretty good time learning on this page, but feel fee if you'd like to contribute. I don't mind taking the load though just for some experience.--PdxCobra (talk) 01:58, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Random component sections[edit]

Just a head's up that I'm changing the Random component sections to match what Portal:Oregon has. It's a recently promoted FP and makes it easier to handle. — Zaui (talk) 17:05, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-- What does that do? Also good call on the categories. I'll try and fill those in.--67.160.146.17 (talk) 18:04, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simplot[edit]

Reference to J.R. Simplot should be "French-fry 'king'" – as a compound modifier, it should be hyphenated. (He wasn't French.)

BTW, AP style on the term french fry has been lower case french for many years, although in this instance it's capitalized due to beginning the sentence or heading.

And speaking of years, why are all these so-called "news" items so dated? Simplot died in '08. Ridiculous. Sca (talk) 15:20, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice from the Portals WikiProject[edit]

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:33, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Changes[edit]

I will be posting changes here for people to comment on. I have spent the better part of two weeks (since I resurrected the Idaho Portal) trying to understand the "Great Portal Debate" that occurred a couple years ago...with practically no success. I have no understanding of the reason that it started (other than some portals were not "maintained"), but want to publicly applaud any and ALL involved in retaining them. I find them valuable.
As per what I can glean from Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals and Wikipedia:Portal

etc, I am reducing the sub-pages of the portal (unless directly link by something "other" than the portal). I don't particularly find this to be a "cleaner" design, but it seems to be the current standard...forcing people to "touch" the portal to make it seem maintained.
But I want your comments, if you have any. Mjquinn_id (talk) 16:23, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
