Time zones? CDT/CST[edit]

Recent Move - Page Title[edit]

Could someone change the citation in footnote a (about The Onion's homepage) from source 10 to source 8? Source 8 has the archived version of the homepage with all of the articles from the "No Way to Prevent" series. I am having trouble figuring out how to change the citation. Regular and cumulative[edit]

I think that having something like what was in the reverted edit would be useful, so long as it was properly cited. It might be more useful to show deaths and injuries in each case, rather than the cumulative. aaronneallucas (talk) 18:50, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it would be useful to show the deaths and injuries for each shooting instead of the cumulative statistics. The labels in the reverted edit's table are confusing because the reader is required to hover over "Deaths" and "Injuries" to find out that they are cumulative. I think I used the template correctly this time? I meant to add this to the edit summary but if people think it's more clear without the em-dash feel free to revert the edit. I just felt it was a nice to have a parenthetical there since it breaks up what otherwise is a run on sentence. I suppose could use parentheses but that seems like overkill. Without intending to minimize the issue, The Onion is satire and makes no claims of fact. Maybe there should be some way to mention this (beyond the description in the first sentence)? Ignoring that this is a forum source, the question statts with: "According to an OpEd in the NY Post by John Lott and Michael Weisser that cites a report by the Crime Prevention Research Center [CPRC], America doesn't lead the world in mass shootings." The NYP is not a reliable source and even if it did, it is an opinion piece by (according to one of the users that replies) "Michael Weisser, aka, 'Mike the Gun Guy', and John Lott, the president of the [CPRC]". The user even investigated more than Weisser and Lott and found that: "The study [...] was not peer reviewed, and does not have a coherent methods section with a well defined search strategy or case definition. To me, it reads like an undergraduate student's report or a blog post, not an academic study [...] They start with events listed in the University of Maryland Global Terrorism Database, and then add events found using a defined nexis search and an undefined 'web search', which included wikipedia." The US might not be necessarily be the leading country, but certainly it is the only country in the world that always repeats the "There's No Way to Prevent This" cliche which is the punchline of the satirical article. What's up with the quoting?[edit]

The quotes in the chapter "Reception" start like this: "[t]here ... ". I've checked the source, and the only difference that's being paraphrased here is a capital letter. Shouldn't it just either keep the capital or make it lowercase without referencing it? Another citation in the same chapter uses this correctly, by replacing a reference to "it" with "[the heading]".
