Columns not always formatting[edit]

The Notable woodworkers section should format into 3 columns (using colbegin/colend) but alhough it works in Firefox it doesnt seem to format in IE8 - anyone know how to do it in IE8 ? - Rod57 (talk) 15:59, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Either: Install a more modern browser, or: Don't use {{Div col}}, use something else instead, like {{col-float}}.
The problem is that the markup you're using is relying on a CSS3 property to do newspaper columns, and IE is (as always) lagging far behind the curve of other browsers. Not all browsers support this either, but many of them have some compatibility hack for similar columns with non-CSS3 syntax.
The old way of doing this would be to use floated columns (or another form of column), rather than newspaper columns. This has the disadvantages that you have to mark-up the column breaks in the source, and also that it can't auto-reflow according to window size on the client.
Personally I'd leave it as it is. The advantages of using newspaper columns and simple markup, giving a nicely fluid behaviour and also having decent fallback for most browsers are worth having. No-one is forced to use IE, and the downside of using IE in this case isn't dreadfully serious. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:22, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

French entry word?[edit]

Should this really be listed under "Ébéniste"? Should List of Spanish artists be moved to Artista? — Preceding unsigned comment added by user name (talkcontribs) time, day month year (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Largoplazo (talkcontribs) 20:24, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If "Ébéniste" were only a French term, then you'd be right to make the comparison, buy Wiktionary suggests that it's a French loanword, making the title English! See: wikt:ébéniste:. Klbrain (talk) 20:45, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
