Merge[edit]

The two articles are almost exactly alike. They need to be merged. The "Tournament" one is part of a history which has several links to it from the Big 12 website. It also has a regular season seeding summary. The "Championship" one has a more in depth explanation of the things behind the tourney, (and one link to the Big 12 site). I propose merging the two, possibly using the bracket and summary from "Championship," and the Seeding summary from "Tournament," under the title, "Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament" in order to maintain parallelism with the other articles in Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament history series. Any objections to this? Wrad 06:51, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds fair. I do think the whole series ought to take the title Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship, as that is the official name of the tournament--I'm not picky, though, and I don't have the time to move that many articles right now. Borksamoht 20:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I will merge them and be sure to make note of the official name in the summary. Wrad 23:49, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Failed: Fixes needed[edit]

Based on the criteria listed at WP:WIAGA, I have had to fail this article. The following fixes are needed to bring it up to GA quality:

  • Broadness criteria: This is the biggest problem. The article is at once trivial in some places, and inadequate in others:
    • The lead is inadequately short. Consider expanding to meet the requirements of WP:LEAD. This will probably be the last fix you make, as expansion in other areas is needed first.
    • The section on Regular season/Tournament seeding is trivial (exhaustive review of preseason polling seems silly) and inadequate, as it gives NONE of the regular season reviews. Consider replacing this entire section with these sections:
      • Regular season: Use the {{main}} tag to link to the main article on the regular season, with a BRIEF overview of the regular season highlights, including a possible BREIF mention of the preseason poll (like maybe the first 2 or 4 places).
      • Tournament seeding: Explain how the seeding procedure works, where the games are played, and any tiebreakers that were applied here.
    • Consider giving a brief (one paragraph or so) review of each game in the first 2 rounds, with a longer review of the semifinal games, and a detailed review of the title game. If we are going to be broad in our coverage of the whole tournament, we should do more than simply print the bracket.
    • Consider a section on individual performances and awards, such as tournament top scorers, tournament award winners (MVP, etc), instead of just brief mentions as it is done now.
  • The writing that is here is quite unencyclopedic in tone, and is in grave need of a copyedit. The championship game summary is "fannish" in tone, especially using terms like "flip-flopping" and "charged out of the box".
  • The image of Kevin Durant is being used in violation of Wikipedia policy on the use of images. It says that the image is licenced under CC 2.5, but I see no source for this image. Who took it? Where did it come from? Where can I see the original licence? The lack of this information is troubling, and leads me to believe that the image is actually mislicenced.

This article needs a lot of work before it is GA ready. Please make the above fixes, carefully review WP:WIAGA and renominate when it is up to standard. If you feel this review was mishandled, please ask for remediation at WP:GA/R. If you have any other questions, or need clarification, please drop a line at my talk page. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 00:14, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can see your point in a lot of things, unfortunately, there are some problems with your suggestions

  • There is no article on the regular season, so no link can be provided to it.
  • I've seen other articles with a "fannish tone" not get counted out for it. For example, the Texas Longhorns' season series currently up for GA status.

I don't really plan to fix it up as much as you ask, so it probably won't make GA anyway. I kind of thought it covered most everything relevant about the tournament itself. Who really cares about the first few rounds? (That's what I thought). But, I can see why it's not a GA. I just don't really care anymore, I guess. It sure took awhile to get a review.

Maybe next season's will be a GA article :) Wrad 01:50, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Durant picture[edit]

  • I took the picture and cropped it. Full version and other pics from the Iowa State game can be found here. I did not link to it in the picture because its a private gallery with restricted public viewing permission. (I made it public for now) Corpx 01:29, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:2007big12.GIF[edit]

Image:2007big12.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
