Stats[edit]

Caps and goals will have to be checked and rechecked due to the large number of matches being played just prior to the start of the tournament so that they accurately portray the statistics before competition. Spartan008 (talk) 04:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take care of Iraq's statistics if you don't mind. Mussav (talk) 10:28, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Btw I have a question, are we gonna update the statistics during the tournament or we will do just like UEFA Euro 2008 squads.? Mussav (talk) 10:31, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the best course of action is to leave caps and goals as they are before the tournament but making sure that all are up to date with the latest friendlies in the team's build up. So yes, essentially like the UEFA Euro 2008 squads. Thanks for your concern. Spartan008 (talk) 03:33, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ages[edit]

I have replaced the birth date and age with birth date and age2 template which gives the age of players at start of tournament, which is a permanently useful stat, as opposed to their current age which will look silly 20 years from now when it shows some of them pushing 50!. One thing tho', some are day first, some are month first. The inconsistency looks untidy. --ClubOranjeT 09:56, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken care of the ages in providing some consistency by making all players DoB show day and month versus month and year. Squad numbers are official, all that is left is to make sure caps and goals are accurate after June 10 with all the friendlies being played.

Teams[edit]

Shouldn't the teams shows each player's team prior to the tournament? Currently the article listed Fabio Cannavaro's club as Juventus, while in the season prior to the tournament he was with Real Madrid. Even FIFA listed his team as Real Madrid in his profile. - Martin tamb (talk) 19:03, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yes, it should followed the format of 2006 FIFA World Cup squads. Matthew_hk tc 19:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I have made some citations and reference for the player movement for some players, more coming soon. Martin tamb (talk) 07:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NZ Caps and goals[edit]

Caps for NZ team members has been taken from Ultimate NZ Soccer at 14 June 2009 whihc had been updated after their last friendly (3-4 loss to Italy) before the tournament. Some people like to take the totals from NZ Football thinking the governing body would know how many times they played, however, NZ football count all appearances or the All Whites including unofficial internationals against club sides and select XIs, which is not the information we should be recording here. An example: Campbell Banks, listed by NZFootball as having 6 caps and 2 goals can be seen at RSSSF to have played 6 matches in 2006, but only 3 were full internationals - 1 against Malaysia and 2 against Chile. The other 3 games were against Charlton, Blackburn and Sevilla which do not count as full internationals for statistics purposes. This is also borne out by Jeremy Ruane's site which lists full line-ups overall stats and goals. Vicelich is listed by NZ football as having his debut against Denmark U-23, clearly not a full international. --ClubOranjeT 10:13, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum - the FIFA confed cup profiles linked from the squad list pages on FIFA.com seem to show correct stats up to earlier this week, ie New Zealand vs Italy on 9 June was not included as at time of this post.--ClubOranjeT 11:29, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
