Location of the London teams tag on the map

So now that Brighton have been promoted the London teams tag, where all the clubs from London are listed on the main map is right next to them and it is very frustrating to look at aesthetically as they are in a position where it looks like they could be mistaken for the location of the dot. I don't know if that makes a whole lot of sense however I do find them too close together and I propose moving the London teams tag somewhere else on the map, possibly in the area at the top of the map in the North Sea. I think that just because the London tag is in one place one season shouldn't mean it should remain in that position every season irrespective of whether new teams near the location of that tag gain promotion to the league. Wembley location

Add Southampton and Stoke City to teams list

Southampton and Stoke City can now be added as teams to this season of the Premier League since there are three teams below them in the 2016-17 Premier League table (Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hull City) that are unable to match their respective points totals. New Qualification System.

I noticed on the article that 6th now qualifies for the UEFA Europa League 2nd qualifying round. Does this mean that League Cup winners no longer qualify? Where I can read the new qualification procedure for England? 108.162.156.10 (talk) 07:39, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Fixtures dates in the results table ?

User:Astronomy Explained added the scheduled dates of each fixture in the results table. I can understand why, but frankly, to me it's a visual nightmare. Besides, it's not in keeping with the formatting of previous seasons and other leagues, and the very first reference of the article links to a season calendar. AFC removed from AFC Bournemouth name

I notice that the AFC has been removed from AFC Bournemouth's name. It's part of the club's name as much as United or City is for the Manchester teams, and has been since the early 1970s. It's why the Premier League has them listed first before Arsenal on premierleague.com and in the Premier League Handbook. It's also the reason why the Football Association has them as ball number one in the FA Cup third round draw. This isn't something that would happen to AFC Wimbledon so why it happens to AFC Bournemouth I'm not sure.Cardboard Captain (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:59, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Firstly, David Wagner's flags should all be changed back to American, and secondly, a note should be added to remind editors not to change them to German. It's getting ridiculous now, the first criteria to defining a manager's nationality is by which national team he appeared for most recently - although he played for Germany U21s, Wagner was capped by the USA senior side. Why are editors so reluctant to adhere to this well-established principle? Is it because his accent is too thick to be a convincing American? Is his name too German? No-one would think to denote Chris Hughton by an English flag, or Thomas Christiansen by a Danish flag. Wagner is an American

He was born in German and played for their U21s, but he represented the United States in full senior international matches. Under FIFA standards, he's an American. His situation is identical to that of Fabian Johnson or Jermaine Jones, and if those two went into management, they'd be listed as Americans. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 04:00, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

David Wagner

The Premier League's official website has Wagner listed as German see https://www.premierleague.com/managers so shouldn't he be listed as German?

What one particular source uses isn't really relevant. Convention on the Englsh Wikipedia is to list football people by their representative nationality, which in the case of Mr Wagner is American. Chris Hughton was born and raised in London, but we don't list him here as English. John Barnes, the son of a Trinidadian father and a Jamaican mother, was born and raised in Jamaica but we do list him as English. etc etc etc. Struway2 (talk) 10:11, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

No, obviously. But as long as the nationality of a Premier League manager gets plenty of media attention, which it does, we're not going to get rid of nationalities in articles like this. So whether it's listed as a little picture or an adjective, the answer to the original question remains the same, unless/until we change our approach to recording nationality. Which would open a whole other can of worms.
I also note that Chris Hughton's Premier League profile, with that website's customary accuracy, has him born in Ireland. Which would come as a surprise to his mother, who was in east London at the time. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:55, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Tottenham Hotspur

In the positions table, someone changed Tottenham Hotspur's name to Cheaters and Divers FC! I changed it back to Tottenham Hotspur but Wikipedia should ban the person who wrote Cheaters and Divers FC.

Tottenham should be linked to the main article. Correct finish place is third, not fifth.

PFA Team of the Year graphic

I can barely make out the Man City players on this graphic : light blue on light green is not a good idea. The colour used for Man City players is 89CFF0 , which compared to the green background of #009c00 has a contrast of 2.127 and thus is not compliant with MOS:CONTRAST which requires a contrast of text against a background of at least 4.5. None of the other colours used (red blue or white) provide a usable contrast either, but none are as bad as the light blue. I've had a look back through previous seasons and the same problem occurs there. If we really need to show a player's team's colours on this image, then I think that we'd have to introduce a coloured shirt icon and put the name in black (and there is no need to create a link, as the players are all listed in the main article anyway). It´s not the same. In de:Wp we have in every Bundesliga-Season a list of the referees with their caps, cards... I´m a german amateur-ref, that´s the reason for my interest.--Scialfa (talk) 07:26, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

I suspect that might be considered overkill for en.wp, but might be worth a suggestion at WT:FOOTY? Also, is there a source that details such things? If not, then a list compiled by editors would probably be construed as original research. Nzd (talk) 07:37, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

To clarify, I wasn't saying that was necessarily my view, or would be others, just that en.wp probably has different rules to de.wp, hence my suggestion of raising this at WT:FOOTY. You might also try the Referees Task Force, but that doesn't seem very active. Nzd (talk) 09:08, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Wagner

On related point, the lists of managers / captains in Teams section avoid this, by having no flags, but the Season statistics / Awards sections do have flags. Shouldn't the whole article be consistent in its usage (or non-usage) of flags? Spike 'em (talk) 08:17, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
