Safety of seats[edit]

Western Australian state election, 2017#2013 pendulum lists seats as "marginal", "fairly safe", etc. However the reference simply lists percentages. I suggest that the designations "marginal" etc are WP:OR and should be removed, and that we should simply list all of the seats (for each side) ordered by percentage. This classification is the AEC's definition of Marginal, Safe and so on. Antony Green uses the same classifications although I believe he adjusts the threshold for Very Safe to a margin of 12 rather than 10. --Canley (talk) 01:21, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

McGowan's longevity[edit]

It's interesting that although McGowan led Labor to a landslide loss in 2013, where the Liberals won a 57.3% 2PP from a 5.4% swing, he has not only successfully served a whole term as opposition leader since, he is also on track to lead Labor to a big win in 2017. When was the last time an opposition leader in Australia led an opposition to a landslide loss, but then went on to not only keep the leadership but also went on to win the next election? Actually that's not so different from Geoff Gallop's efforts in the 1990's. He became Opposition Leader 2 months before the WA 1996 election, which turned out to be a horrible loss for Labor, being reduced to 19/57 seats. However, Gallop held on through the long wait until the 2001 election and won it very comfortably. I gather that WA Labor tends to be more forgiving of its opposition leaders if they don't manage to win the one after a loss. That and the climate in March 2013 was pretty much blamed on federal politics at the time. Kirsdarke01 (talk) 11:58, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
