Merge with The Hits[edit]

Is there any need maintaining these two articles, when 4Music is simply a re-naming of The Hits? The Hits Radio can deal with radio; The Hits TV and 4Music TV are one and the same. /Marbles (talk) 09:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support (but see below first) - the yardstick to determine whether articles should be merged that I use is something used for (and ignored in some cases by editors) the Radio Stations WikiProject guideline that the TV WikiProjects do not have. If a channel has been renamed without changing format, then the old article should be renamed to the new name. If the format changes radically from the old station, create a new article and keep the old one with the tag (defunct) in the old stations infobox. As The Hits has been renamed to 4Music under the same management and music channel format, then the Hits should have been renamed to 4Music (with The Hits kept as a redirect). --tgheretford (talk) 10:49, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I added a merge tag to both The Hits and 4Music articles, which should generate more discussion. --tgheretford (talk) 10:54, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Actually, better idea. Because there is a disambiguation page for The Hits with a few articles, we should still merge things into the 4Music article, but move one of the other articles named "The Hits" to The Hits with a link on the disambiguation page along the lines of "The Hits, the former name for a music channel now called 4Music" or something like that. We really need to look into WP:DISAM before making consensus. --tgheretford (talk) 11:04, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They are both the same channel 4music is just a rebrand so they should just be merged together into 1 article. (FV) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.203.119.15 (talk) 17:16, 16 August 2008

There two separate things, apart from 4music as took the channel. Should not be merged —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.175.53 (talk) 17:38, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep "The Hits" as a separate entry. There is conisderably different programming and formatting, For example, 4 Music has presenter-led shows, includes far more indie music and shows far fewer music videos, often preferring concerts. "The Hits" deserves its place in history. Leave it alone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brookmount (talkcontribs) 08:54, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, The Hits should be left as a separate article. - Unsigned — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.71.208.77 (talk) 01:57, 18 August 2008

The Hits and 4Music are completely different channels with completely different programming, and so should be kept separate. The only thing that links them is that 4Music replaced The Hits. - Unsigned —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.160.17 (talk) 10:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Leave them separated Philip1992 (talk) 17:50, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Philip1992[reply]

Stating The Hits and 4Music are different is like suggesting Five Life and FIVER were separate channels, since they "too" had very different programmes. Both The Hits and 4Music are brands of the same music television channel, operated by the same company using the same broadcast capacity, the same logical channels numbers, the same contracts and probably under the same transmission team also. The programming on 4Music WAS also seen on The Hits. Last year's V Festival was broadcast on The Hits, in addition to the whole host of programmes on 4Music Sundays, which was part of The Hits. Many of The Hits' formats have continued into 4Music, such as Flashbox and the chart countdowns. The only difference between The Hits and 4Music is the addition of some Channel 4 repeats and it is in widescreen. I would personally incorporate The Hits (TV channel) as a section in this article, using the information and logo on The Hits (TV channel) article. As far as I'd be concerned, 4Music was launched in October 2002 as "The Hits". This is an argument that arises whenever a channel changes its name, of which another example was Ftn and Virgin 1, which in my opinion have no difference between the two, including the programme content, just like The Hits/"4Music". /Marbles (talk) 13:41, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In terms of their broadcast licence, The Hits->4 Music was a simply change of name at least as far as Ofcom is concerned. http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/ifi/tvlicensing/tvupdates/monthly/200808 90.198.191.2 (talk) 00:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is pretty much confirmation that the station changed its name. Aside from the 50% ownership and Channel 4 shows and event programming appearing on the channel, it is nothing more than a rebrand due to Channel 4's involvement from the sources I can find through Google. It is still the same genre of channel as it was when it was called the Hits. There has been a shift by music channels to music entertainment because of changes of how people view music videos (think online video websites) means they need to adapt. The do not merge arguments here have used this to keep things as is, but the same argument could also apply to MTV One and TMF, two that spring to mind. As I see it, The Hits and 4Music have just done like other channels and adapted to changes - The Hits was already doing it prior to the rebranding to 4Music. Still, I really wouldn't like to be the one who has to close and archive this merge proposal. --tgheretford (talk) 20:11, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually The Hits was a pure music channel and it is my understanding that 4Music also features some non-music programming such as The Friday Night Project. So their programming isn't identical. I would tend to say keep since The Hits is actually quite well written and concise. If merged into 4Music then it would no doubt be cropped over time and some useful historical information would be lost. 87.82.130.228 (talk) 10:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The 2 should not be merged, because they have different data and 4music replaced The Hits; it was not just re-named. Keep them separate.

Support to say that 4Music is Different is like saying that When CBBC was updated, as they changed the programming, it was completely different. Channels often do update, or rebrand at times of significant programming change or vice versa!! KEEP!!! ATMarsdenTalk · {Semi-Retired} 18:52, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep seperate, as a merge article would be no where as near as in depth and would not be the quality of information I and probably many others will be looking for. Also TheHits and 4music are very different in their format as TheHits was pure non stop music and 4 music is more TMF style of programming with non-music realted shows on. I vote to keep separate as the Hits to me IS and Was a separate channel to 4music, though the parents are the same, the children are quite different to put it in a metaphor analogy type thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilolirocksursocks (talkcontribs) 19:44, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

please do not edit[edit]

I am in the middle of merging The hits and 4music so please do not edit —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.92.64.168 (talk) 18:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do not mergee please, isn't this site a democracy? Look above you, nearly everyone said do not merge, therefore most people don't want it merged because they want a separate article. In other words merging would be going against what most people want which is wrong. Please do no not merge, that would be silly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilolirocksursocks (talkcontribs) 09:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
