Effectiveness of flash suppressor[edit]

It's not entirely clear to me from the scant sources, but looking at the pictures of the gun too, the flash suppressor it had was probably very ineffective. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good presentation of what made the AKS-74U flash suppressor better; the Russian sources speak of it as "Усиленный", meaning enhanced. A Russian company sells a commercial derivative of the AKS-74U flash suppressor in the US too, [1] so there's probably some non-trivial technology in it.
