Brooklyn childhood[edit]

It would be significant to note in which otherwise "all-white" neighborhood of Brooklyn the young Aileen Hernandez experienced racial discrimination, and who were these neighbors (i.e. by ethnicity and by generation post-immigration). Also, did she also experience discrimination when she attended Bay Ridge High School? Notable would be any documentation of her relations with Jewish Americans in the labor movement (e.g. the ILGWU) and the feminist movement. Is she on record regarding the issue of intersectionality in present times? -- Deborahjay (talk) 17:24, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Deborahjay: If you can find the sources for that info, please add it. :-) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 17:50, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give this a review shortly. Wizardman 22:47, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what I found:

  • Probably a non-issue, but I'd make archive links for the sites to be on the safe side since obits tend not to stay up long.
    • On a side note, any other non-obit refs out there?
  • The Lead should be expanded a bit.
  • "experience she had in Washington, DC," technically should be Washington, D.C.
  • "but left for California, on the west coast of the United States " not sure the west coast part is needed, doesn't really add anything to the article.

Everything else looks fine, I'll put the article on hold and will pass when fixed. Wizardman 23:19, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Wizardman: I've fixed all of the issues you identified! (While I haven't added archive links to the refs, I have saved all of the pages, and if the links go a dead, a bot will add the links.) Thanks for the review, I greatly appreciate it. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 04:15, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Everything looks good, so I'll pass the article. Wizardman 16:07, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question relating to hyphenation[edit]

Why is it "African-American" yet "Jamaican American"? Particularly when our own article says African Americans and an external link used here says "African American Women's Institute" - you'd think they'd know the right answer... The Rambling Man (talk) 21:58, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a non-obituary source[edit]

@Wizardman and Ed: I added American National Biography article as an additional (non-obituary, as proposed by Wizardman) source; it can also support adding some more data to her education as I already did, and possible else, e.g. a short section on her consulting business side of life might be added.

According to that source I also propose (and intend) to change some data in infobox: Birth family name by this source was Clarke, married family name probably Hernandez; I intend to change birth name to Aileen Clarke (which is supported by this source), and her family name to that she used after she married (and divorced?) (Hernandez or Clarke Hernandez, I need to check), as her family name. That may take some time and if somebody else is faster at this, (s)he is welcome. --Marjan Tomki SI (talk) 04:13, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marjan Tomki SI! Thanks for adding that source. I've fixed the birth name in the infobox, but I haven't seen a source that discusses what name she used after 1961. If you find one, please note it in the article! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 02:58, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, when I can, but from sources already mentioned in the article (obituaries etc.) it seems she went by Aileen Hernandez, so it seems you already did OK. If I encounter something else that could be useful, I'll let you know. Marjan Tomki SI (talk) 14:29, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
