Did Brunson received some kind of sentence[edit]

At the hearing he hadn't been told about in advance, December 9? LINK--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 17:56, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They may have just transmuted him being just held to a full arrest. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 02:09, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation of prosecution's theories[edit]

I want to know where consensus stands on explaining the theory espoused by the case's prosecution. How far is inappropriate (in BLP terms) or undue? We have multiple sources on the subject, so something on it seems due.

There are 2 main prongs, the Gulen-related accusations and the Kurdish-related accusations. We have references for other stuff as well. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 19:16, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you're wondering what sources I want the article to base the "Case claims" section off of, here they are:

Source link Title and source
Ahval: U.S. preacher on trial in Turkey wanted Christian Kurdish state – anonymous witness (Ahval) [1]
Al-Monitor: Turkey doubles down in pastor row with US [2]
Asheville Citizen-Times: Charges against Brunson contain a strange mix of conspiracy theories — and a food video https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2018/05/05/andrew-brunson-maklube-missionary-turkey-tillis/577338002/
Daily Sabah: US priest Brunson faces prison for espionage, aiding FETÖ, PKK terrorist groups [3]

I'm interested to see what consensus has to say about this. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 19:16, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment (Summoned by bot) Please come up with a more specific question relating to specific text and start over. This one is far too vague and broad-brush. This is supposed to be a dispute resolution mechanism and I don't see any discussion, much less any dispute. Coretheapple (talk) 12:50, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • {{yo|Coretheapple))Oh, it's supposed to be DR? Oops, I'm sorry. Maybe I can remove it from the cat. Very sorry. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 21:36, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral??[edit]

I read this article as being pretty one sided. Looking from other side, a pastor (with a PhD) of "a small Protestant church with about 25 congregants" sure brings forth some serious questions. Who is sponsoring him?

187.143.13.161 (talk) 16:08, 26 July 2018 (UTC) baden k.[reply]

Isn't it 23 congregants, according to reports on Jay Sekulow Live? MaynardClark (talk) 17:36, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is he being sponsored at all? He may have felt that pastoring a small congregation was the right thing to do because he felt that despite the fact that he could earn a lot of money, he is working hard with these <30 people doing something he thinks of as spiritually important.
We don't have any reliable sources that say otherwise, so we have nothing to say on whether he is being sponsored as of yet. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 18:30, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Release[edit]

Wasn't Dr. Brunson released from the Turkish prison, for house arrest? Video shown on Jay Sekulow Live (July 26, 2018) shows him being hustled out of the prison into a smaller structure. MaynardClark (talk) 17:36, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this happened the other day. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 18:24, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Metin Topuz[edit]

The article makes reference to:

...Metin Topuz, a Turkish national who worked in the American embassy in Istanbul.

If it were the embassy, it would be the US (not American) embassy in Ankara. I believe Metin Topuz works at the US Consulate in Istanbul. 9https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/oct/9/second-us-diplomat-turkey-sought-after-metin-topuz/)--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:00, 18 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Economics[edit]

So, my section on how the case is perceived to affect the Turkish economy has been reverted by Seraphim System (talk · contribs). I think that since the tariffs were widely blamed on the case, that's why it belongs. He feels the section is not really relevant to a bio. It's open to the floor. What do you guys think? Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 02:37, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I should have specified WP:COATRACK in the edit summary - most of the content that was added has absolutely nothing to do with Brunson. This is already briefly mentioned in the International Relations section. This article could use more cleanup. Seraphim System (talk) 02:58, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have heard the news, it is good, but I have found these sources that I don't have time to add in. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/turkish-court-orders-release-of-us-pastor-andrew-brunson/2018/10/12/a793df78-ccbf-11e8-ad0a-0e01efba3cc1_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.9b5161b13922

Convicted felon?[edit]

It seems to be pretty biased to label Brunson a "convicted felon" right at the outset as that implies he was convicted in the U.S. since he's a U.S. citizen. It appears from the page, however, that he was actually "convicted" in Turkey, a country widely known for political prosecutions. This article also gives way too much credibility in general to Turkey's politically motivated prosecutions and "convictions."

50.121.50.99 (talk) 10:39, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think I agree. We should not describe him as a convicted felon, but keep in how they only released him on time served as a way to end the controversy. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 01:56, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality of article[edit]

The neutrality of the article is disputed since it involves partial language and info, without giving details and reasons concerning certain events. I suggest more info be added from various sources. 786wave (talk) 03:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
