Reminder[edit]

Reminder: it is an ironclad principle in Wiki to have the name of the article in bold as in

Anionic addition polymerization is an anionic addition polymerization of vinyl monomers that is initiated by a strong base, such as an alkali amide, or an organometallic compound, such as n-butyllithium.

Cleanup[edit]

Copied from the Cleanup Request page for preservation before I remove its entry there.

*Anionic addition polymerization - could be a useful article, if only someone would write the text. Now it's just a chemical formula (badly written). JoJan 1 July 2005 09:33 (UTC)

I cleaned up this article and removed the cleanup tag. But it could still be improved by a PhD in chemistry (perhaps by describing the anionic formation of polyethers ?). JoJan 1 July 2005 21:40 (UTC)

I'm assuming what JoJan meant, was that a PhD in the field of this article would probably do the best job expanding and improving upon it. Many topics in Wikipedia are considerably easier to work fon or people with a background in the field, compared to the common layperson. In my opinion, she is correct and has done a good job thus far on the article Naha|(talk) 16:32, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
The she is a he with the photo on my user page as proof. JoJan 16:44, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Please accept my apologies for the mistake, I don't have time to browse everyone's user page :) Naha|(talk) 15:59, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

Plexiglass[edit]

According to Collins English Dictionary the word Plexiglass does exist (and it is US Trademark). JoJan 15:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to address this remark. Both cannot be true in the above statement. "Plexiglas" (one 's') is a trademark, it is not possible that "plexiglass" is also a trademark. Therefore since it (plexiglass) is not a trademark, it cannot be a word. A more simple explanation is a misspelling (or misreading on JoJan's part).Tstrobaugh 16:03, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Collins dictionary gives : Plexiglass (U.S. Trademark)
  • Webster new Collegiate dictionary : Plexiglas (one s) (trademark)
  • Longman Modern English dictionary : plexiglass, plexiglas (both words with a small p) (from Plexiglas, trademark)
  • Concise Oxford dictionary : plexiglass (small p, two s) (no reference to a trademark)
Whatever it is, small letter p or capital letter P, one s or two s : the word exists. But if even dictionaries give different explanations, who am I to decide ? JoJan 18:07, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

Formal request has been received to merge the articles Anionic addition polymerization and Living anionic polymerization, dated: June 2019. . Pinging proposer @31.205.238.123: and editor who originally split off the latter article @V8rik:. Discuss here. Richard3120 (talk) 14:52, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support merge. These are closely related topics. The topics are important. The articles need work. It is a whole lot easier to upgrade a unified article.--Smokefoot (talk) 19:14, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cmnt: Could you do the merge, @Smokefoot:. My chemistry is really rusty, and I wouldn't want to mess it up. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 16:09, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New IUPAC definition box[edit]

As discussed previously at WT:Chemistry, we have come up with a new linked graphic for IUPAC definitions. I've uploaded one here. These images have been released under a CC-BY-SA license so they can be used in Wikipedia. If you have any feedback, please comment here or on my talk page.
