Definition of Advertising[edit]

@JalenFolf: Hi there! I come back to this page every so often to update it with new info or relevant edits, I see you undid my addition of the next event dates in the leading paragraph.

I wanted to ask what the official rules are on advertising - I did not and do not personally consider stating the next event dates on the page for an event qualifies as outright advertising. I do my best to make factual and useful additions or edits to this page in particular, as documentation in this fandom I think is extremely important.

Is it the general rule on Wikipedia that mentioning the next event dates in any capacity beyond the table listing all past/future dates is not allowed? Thank you! AtlasANE (talk) 15:55, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot confirm if it's advertising, however, we generally do not allow for stuff like this in prose. I do not know of any known consensus that asks for this, but I also do not see any other article having this information in the body of the article. The table, however, is fine. Proposed Revision of Article[edit]

Please see my draft article revising this article to be more clear, concise and more thoroughly cited.

I re-added a chart of past years - pages for other conventions such as Midwest Furfest do feature these; I based the new chart on the format from that article. I welcome all feedback, thank you!

Hi, due to licensing and page history requirements please could you add your change requests in this thread (example: change x to y). Thanks, Encoded Talk to me! 16:27, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, sure! This is a new way of editing wiki articles - so I apologize if this isn't exactly what you were asking for. Thank you!
Main paragraph changes:
- remove 'annually since then', replace with 'held annually' in first line
- remove 'moved to the Boston Park Plaza in 2018 and has been held in Boston', replace with 'moved into Boston in 2018 at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza.'
- re-arrange order of COVID-19 and new hotel to follow chronological order, add sourced mention of Anthro New England's rank among world-wide furry conventions (it does use wikifur, but this is the most accurate collection of stats that I am aware of).
- update most recent event year and attendance, and latest record of attendees in the main paragraph
History section changes:
- remove mention of Maltese FurCon - this was a one-year event also held in Boston when ANE started, does not have relevance to the article about ANE
- reword 'organized in 2014 in order to host a furry convention' to 'organized in 2014 with the goal of hosting a furry convention'
- add paragraph: By 2018, Anthro New England had become one of the largest annual furry conventions in the United States[4], with the 2019 event attracting over 2,000 attendees[5]. For the past two years, Anthro New England's attendance has increased by over one thousand each event, remaining in the top ten largest furry conventions in the world.[2]
Add: Locations, attendances, charity donations, and themes by year section
- referenced Midwest Furfest article for template, with sourced data for each year AtlasANE (talk) 17:59, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! I just wanted to make sure my reply here wasn't missed. Thank you! AtlasANE (talk) 21:55, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
