Forests[edit]

"Impassable forests". This sounds like an exaggeration or flowery language. Both styles seem inappropriate for this article here. Andries 18:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

Regarding the map: I can understand that, at least administratively, Nenets Autonomous Okrug can be classified along with Arkhangelsk Oblast; however, I feel that it is both confusing and misleading for the map of the oblast to include the okrug as if there were no divisions. --Brandon A. Not sure what you mean? The border between the oblast proper and NAO is shown on this map; further detalization (by districts) for a map this small a size would simply render the map unusable. Oblast[edit]

"Oblast" is an English loanword and is the most precise term to use in this context. "Province" can be used colloquially or in passing, but never in the articles specifically about the topic, because it is far too ambiguous and can mean many more things besides "oblast", even in the context of Russia. If you think about how the terms "krai", "okrug", "guberniya", and "raion" can (and often are) translated as "province", you'll see what I mean.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:03, March 23, 2009 (UTC)

I agree with topicstarter. "Oblast", "Krai", "Okrug" are not part of the name, but only attribute and sould be translated - "Oblast" is a Province, "Krai" is a Region, "Okrug" is a District Bearg (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 12:02, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arts - 17st centuries[edit]

The icon-painting techniques were transferred to the traditional wood painting which has been known from 17st centuries in the valleys of the Northern Dvina ...
