title[edit]

Why does the article title have a lowercase "a" ("Ask a Ninja" vs "Ask A Ninja") when all instances on the website itself show the latter as the official capitalization? --Ruyn 18:02, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are redirects in place for "ask a ninja" and "Ask A Ninja", so variously capitalised searches will happily end up here. If you want to move the page to "Ask A Ninja", it will be your duty to check all the linked pages & fix any redirects! Grrr I wish you hadn't mentioned this.. now you've got me noticing it, it's irritating me to the extent that I might just go fix it! Didn't call myself bezapt for nothing! LOL Bezapt 14:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC) P.S. I won't mind if you beat me to it![reply]

I don't kn ow the current status of the redirecting circle, but I think its common to have words like a, the, an and similar lowercase in a title, if it's not the first letter, but I could be wrong. --Dami 17:24, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone make tht autoreply thing look right? I tried to do it and its really crappy. Thanks anyway. EDIT: Nevermind, I did it myself.

01:16, 6 December 2006 (UTC)~

I added that "Ask A Ninja" is produced by David Peck, but someone took it out, so I put it back. For reference, check the "Ask a Ninja" FAQ (http://www.askaninja.com/faq):

"Who are you guys? Why do you care?

Come on, d00d! Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine make up the heart and soul of BBG. We’re just a couple guys in LA who dig comedy. We cut our teeth doing improv here. We make shit up and people laugh. Sometimes.

We also work with a guy in a suit named David Peck."

I think parts of the article like "utterly absurd" expresses a biased description. I think a change with formal non-critcising description is needed. 168.254.226.153 (talk) 15:51, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Song[edit]

Can anyone find anything about the intro song? --Brazucs (TALK | CONTRIBS) 03:13, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

oo, [1] --Brazucs (TALK | CONTRIBS) 03:22, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The music is by a German band called The Neu Tickles - there wasn't a Wikipedia article about them, so I did a little scouting for some info and wrote one! :-) If you want to listen to the entire I M Ninja song, you can stream it from the band's website at . /neutickles http://www. . /neutickles. Enjoy! Bezapt 13:47, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ninja portrayer[edit]

In the first episode the person portraying the Ninja is a different person than the one who portrays him from episode 2 and on. The tone of voice is different and so is the eye color. If it's true, it should be added to the trivia section, but I do not know the name of the episode 1 Ninja. Anyone know? Throw

Possibly Kent Nichols and then he discovered that Douglas Sarine is different but better.
The title of Episode 1 is in the episode list in the article. It's "Ninja-Mart Store". Bezapt 16:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ax a Pirate[edit]

There isn't any mention of the Ax a Pirate website. I know it's not notable enough to have its own wiki page but it seems like it should at least appear in the trivia section of this page.

-- I just added a note to it, not in trivia, but on external links.

Yar, this'll seem cliché coming from a pirate (User:Captain Red Hook), but we really do deserve some repect. Also, is it an official spinn off or not?

Trivia Addition[edit]

askapirate.com redirects to askaninja.com, lol

Merge episodes[edit]

I am going to merge the episodes back into this page or a seperate page unless someone objects. Otherwise I'll just AfD them. He's just not that famous. BrokenSegue 22:12, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it works well with links from the table to the individual pages. Someone's taken a good deal of time to write them all out, so don't just delete them. If it bothers you enough that they have their own pages, then each episode description could go on this page. However, not all the episodes have pages, so if they all go back on here we can at least wait until all the episodes are done... --Andrew 15:14, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dude, wtf for? the episode listings are perfect. there are not that many of them and it helps that every episode has a url for it for ease of navigation. if the number of episodes has grown where the list takes up the majority of the article then move the episodes to a new article.--Greg.loutsenko 10:15, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube links[edit]

This article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. If you are not sure if the link on this article should be removed or you would like to help spread this message contact us on this page. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 03:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually you tube should be fine here, as most of the older ones were uploaded there by the ask a ninja people themselves --T-rex 01:35, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Episode Details[edit]

Listen here. Whoever keeps erasing my question descriptions, please stop. I worked extremely hard on those, and I'd like to have them back. To whom it may concern. Art1991 00:22, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Strong Bad Emails?[edit]

This vlog is obviously inspired by Homestarrunner.com's popular segment "Strong Bad Emails," it even has the same format; a 2-3 minute comedy short w/ a host answering real questions from his audience. They even mentioned as much in the NY Times article that mentions "ask a ninja"

Here's the text from the NY Times Magazine (November '06) article "The Online Auteurs."

"[Ask a Ninja writer/director Kent] Nichols was already a fan of Homestar Runner and Penny Arcade, cartoon sites that had millions of viewers a month."

I think it would be appropriate to say something akin to "The episodes are similar in format to Strong Bad Emails" or something similar, because it's obvious where they got this general idea from (even if it's live-action, and even if they put their own "spin" on it) and it's a disservice to the Homestar Runner guys to not mention such an obvious influence.

Here's a link to the whole NY Times magazine article, in case anyone wants to add it as a citation.

Buy a DVD[edit]

I don't know when they changed this but as of a certain date, the automatic reply when you send the Ninja an email now asks you to buy a dvd instead of a shirt. --talk Sahm Crispy ribs 05:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Live[edit]

The live episode doesn't seem to be classified as a regular episode or a special delivery

Individual Pages for Nichols and Sarine[edit]

I think someone should create separate pages for Doug Sarine and Kent Nichols. In addition to Hope is Emo they are working on another ninja themed series and Sarine is in a number of videos on YouTube not related to ask a ninja. I would like to have a central place to find information about all of their work. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 152.30.221.68 (talk) 03:50, 7 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Ninja Repeats?[edit]

Where should "Ninja Repeat, Question 8 "Roger" Plus Bonus" be included in the table of episodes? If it goes after episode 35 in the table should it be called the 35.5th episode or another 8th episode? --Jak86 21:24, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Real Ultimate Power[edit]

Similar to the comments above about strong bad emails, is it notable that a number of bits make reference to realultimatepower.com? The Ask a Ninja ninja makes several references to "flipping out" and his distaste for pirates (especially in the Pirates of the Carribean review and in the bit on Ninja History Month). These seem explicit nods to the original source of web ninjadom. --TSarducci

Yeah, this is really the most unoriginal production in the history of entertainment, strong bad + realultimatepower = no talents gaining celebrity 24.182.229.4 (talk) 16:08, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mythbusters[edit]

Recently (like, two hours ago), Mythbusters had the "Ask a Ninja Ninja" on a special web-episode. I'd add it to the Special episode list, but I think it's more like a special appearance. So maybe we should leave it up to a vote on where it should go. I say an addition of a 'Special Appearances' section after Special Deliveries. 198.145.85.152 03:25, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parody?[edit]

Is that "Pod Parody TV" parody reference even worth having in there? Is it notable enough to warrant a mention? Google's turning up 98 results for it, including this page and the official page, which would indicate otherwise.--59.121.189.33 04:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

who is the actor playing ninja?[edit]

Plural[edit]

"Ask A Ninja is an award-winning series of comedy videos about the image of ninjas in popular culture"...

Er... the plural of 'ninja' is 'ninja'. Just like 'one samurai', 'two samurai', 'seven samurai'. I know the Ask A Ninja Ninja says "ninjas", but I'm not sure if Wikipedia should do so, too. I mean, I think it shouldn't, but I want to see what others think. Vetch 11:00, 25 September 2007

Upcoming Ask A Ninja Live Performance[edit]

I think it should be noted somewhere in this article that "Ask A Ninja" will be having it's first ever live performance soon, at the El Ray in California. Seems important. 24.186.213.226 02:06, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Link to a review site[edit]

Hi,

yesterday I deleted an external link from this article's page. It was a link to the page http://tilzy.tv/ . Specifically the tilzy-page on this article's topic. I came to the idea of deleting those links as such a link was also added to Ze Frank's wikipedia page, and I expected that there wouldn't be much new information on such an external site, as Ze Frank's show ended more than half a year ago.

I got a mail now by one of the founders of tilzy.tv. He explained to me relatively convincingly that he didn't post the link, and that he thinks of his site as adding extra information.

Whether or not we re-add this link should probably be based on Wikipedia:External_links.

I am actually not sure whether tilzy.tv is a

Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues,
amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks)
or other reasons.

Does someone else know this site?

My main concern was, that there should be several sites that aggregate links to vlogs. Even several sites that aggregate links and add write a small review about them. So I wasn't sure whether tilzy.tv is in someway special or provided better information.

Could maybe someone post his/her opinion on that, so we can decided whether or not to include the links to tilzy.tv.

Thanks, -- JanCK (talk) 09:56, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA delisting[edit]

This article did not pass a GA review, so I removed the "GA class" from the template. It had not been added to Wikipedia:Good articles, so I see no need to go through a format reassessment process. GaryColemanFan (talk) 17:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Endings[edit]

The way it is put in this article is kinda backward. In the OLDER episodes, the Ninja advertised the DVD. It was more RECENTLY where he advertised the Ninja Mart Store, but he has since switched to advertising his Ninja Handbook. Tubularbells1993 (talk) 18:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I've put a references tag on here, although there are a couple of them, the vast majority of this advert is unreferenced, I'll be back in a couple of weeks (if I remember) to sort out what isn't properly referenced. 92.6.236.213 (talk) 07:04, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decided to endorse deletion, but instead of nominating immediately have tagged for notability....I don't see it myself, but maybe it's more famous than I think. 92.4.255.185 (talk) 06:43, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did a major revamp of the article to add ample references from notable media sources and to clearly clarify Ask a Ninja's notability, particular in consideration of The Ninja's multiple noteworthy media appearances and references. As I feel this resolves the issue you had with the article, I took the liberty of removing the notability and reference tags. If you feel the article still needs further improvement in those areas please re-add the tags. aeonite (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 23:54, 13 February 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Plesantly surprised to be proved wrong, and quickly too. I reckon notability is fine now, but as for references the entire 'the ninja' section is unreferenced (personally I'd scrap that section as unencyclopedic) and I'd suggest a different title for the 'cultural impact' section...he hasn't had any, and that's not what the actual text is about...in fact, I'll rename it now.
Not overly enthused with 'advertising and other appearances' either, but at least it's accurate. Good job anyways, I'll leave the tags off, this'll do...92.7.2.180 (talk) 05:58, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ask A Ninja = dead?[edit]

As one can see from the episode list, the last episode came out on May, 1st (instead of December, 30th). And that before on December, 15th.

So it looks as if Ask A Ninja is pretty much dead. There are also no other new activities on the site. I think we should update the Article to reflect that.

94.220.250.151 (talk) 01:25, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edits are not to be made based on assumptions, only on verifiable information. Slow activity is not evidence of permanent inactivity. Until the creators say otherwise, the series is considered alive. Notice that before episode 86 came out in May of 2009, episode 85 came out in December of 2008. That's a long wait, but it did not mean that Ask a Ninja was dead between those months. It may be a long wait until episode 87 comes out, but the series isn't dead until it's officially announced as such. Sage of Ice (talk) 21:45, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was a new episode Dec 1, 2009. It appears to have been sponsored by a movie called Ninja Assassin. It appears only advertising money can wake the ninja now. --Catch153 (talk) 03:25, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possible origin story?[edit]

Rooster Teeth Podcast 535 goes into how "Ask A Ninja" was originally created as advertising for a ninja-themed cartoon.

Split proposed[edit]

The result of this discussion was to Not Split. TipsyElephant (talk) 19:10, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm proposing that the episodes be split into a separate article the same way that The Last Podcast on the Left has a separate article called List of The Last Podcast on the Left episodes. Right now the episode list takes up the majority of the page and although the word count might not be extremely large I think it's still too long (WP:SIZESPLIT) or if that's not a valid reason I'd say that the episodes constitute a different article because they are a slightly different subject (WP:CONTENTSPLIT). Either way it appears to be common practice to split episode lists into their own article once they've become lengthy (Lists of episodes). TipsyElephant (talk) 02:33, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

After some discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Podcasting#Lists_of_Episodes a few other editors and myself have come to the consensus that collapsible tables are preferred alternatives to splitting tables into separate articles, but that pre-collapsing tables is deprecated and should be avoided. I'm closing this discussion as Not Split. TipsyElephant (talk) 14:36, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
