Was The War Between the States the Civil War or the American Civil War?

The Wikipedia article on The War Between the States is titled The American Civil War. That title is appropriate because Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia, and a lot of foreigners are not familiar with that particular conflict, which dates back more than a hundred and fifty years.

Discussion of the Civil War in the Atlanta article is a little different. Atlanta is in the State of Georgia, which is in the United States. It's not necessary to describe that particular civil war as "The American Civil War". As a matter of fact, I've never seen that war described with the word "American" until today.

If editors insist on keeping it "American Civil War," the title of the header in the section "Civil War" should also be changed to "American Civil War." Personally, I think that it's silly to use the designation "American" in the article on Atlanta. Anthony22 (talk) 02:54, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Reversion

@BilCat: I am wondering how you reconcile your reinsertion of the repeated use of the word Dr. before the name of Martin Luther King Jr. with MOS:DOCTOR. 142.160.89.97 (talk) 20:02, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

It's use is culturally significant as an honorific, as he is almost always referred to as "Dr. King" in the US. This is in the spirit of WP:HONORIFIC, which states, "Where an honorific is so commonly attached to a name that the name is rarely found in English reliable sources without it, it should be included." - BilCat (talk) 20:07, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Both in the course of editing and the multiple times the issue has been discussed on the article's talk page. But that doesn't answer the questions:

Does that not only apply when "the name is rarely found in English reliable sources without it"? And does this not contradict the consensus established at the article Martin Luther King Jr.?

It is rarely found without it in English reliable sources. Where on the article's talk page was this consensus established? Not that that's relevant here, as usage has established its use on this page. - BilCat (talk) 20:27, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

"Metro" definition in side pane

The Area stat for Metro and the Population state don't agree when you consider the number listed for Metro density. The biggest issue is inadequate citations. There are currently 20 "citation needed" tags (full disclosure: I added most of them). Another major issue is outdated information. For example, the sexual orientation/gender identity section cites a 2006 study. Is this the most recent data available for this, and is this data still true? Another example: the transportation section states "In 2015, 15.2 percent of Atlanta households lacked a car, and increased slightly to 16.4 percent in 2016. The national average is 8.7 percent in 2016. Atlanta averaged 1.31 cars per household in 2016, compared to a national average of 1.8." Is this the most recent data for this? There are also a few inconsistencies. For example, the economy section states the city's GDP is $385 billion, which is inconsistent with the $406 billion figure in the lead. That being said, this article was first promoted to GA status more than 13 years ago, and a lot has changed since then. I feel like this current meets the standards of a B-class article, but it shouldn't be much harder to get it back to GA status. Bneu2013 (talk) 02:58, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Culture Question

”Atlanta is noted for its lack of Southern culture due to a large population of migrants from other parts of the U.S, in addition to many recent immigrants”.<< This statement doesn’t ring true to me living in the metro area, especially when you consider the breadth and width of “Southern Culture” (in any case most of the traditional associations can still be found in Atlanta).

This line accomplishes two things, neither of which were probably intentional: 1. It insinuates that Atlanta is the southern city with the highest share of foreign-born among its fellow major southern cities (it isn’t) -and more importantly- makes it seem as though those born outside of the state or country ( who now call Atlanta home) have an outsized impact, and ‘dilute’ or ‘undercut’ said Southern culture in the city. The associated citations were from the Census Bureau and the Atlanta Journal constitution. Neither conclusively supports (or is evidence of) the assertion that Atlanta is *noted* for its lack of southern culture. In fact, neither directly addressed that at all. The other citation, a travel guide, includes a list of things to do. While it does make mention of an increasing share of people with out of country/state origins, it doesn’t support the original claim. What city is the point of reference?
